Business Certificates

Advance your education by adding a certificate to your CV. SFU Beedie School of Business offers Business Major and Business Joint Major students the opportunity to tailor their studies even further with one or more Business Certificate programs. Learn more about each certificate below or through the SFU Calendar.

Note: Courses can only be applied toward a single certificate as per the SFU Calendar. Students are not permitted to double count certificate courses towards multiple certificates. If a student is pursuing multiple certificates and there is overlap in courses, the student must choose which certificate to complete. For example, BUS 362, BUS 462, and BUS 464 are overlapping requirements for both the BADM and BTM certificates. As such, students may not apply these courses towards both certificates.

The Certificate in Business Analytics and Decision Making (BADM) teaches you valuable skills in business analytics and decision-making, including the ability to ask the right questions, to manage data (databases and warehouses), and to be familiar with statistical and computational methods. At the end of your certificate, you will apply your newly acquired skills by completing a one-term capstone project working with an industry partner.

Designed by the Canadian Coalition for Tomorrow's ICT Skills (CCICT) and the academic community, the Certificate in Business Technology Management (BTM) focuses on innovation, leadership, and implementation of change in organizations, especially in the area of information and communications technology (ICT). Along with developing interpersonal communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, BTM students learn to analyze business processes, design appropriate technology-based solutions, and lead projects.

Starting Spring 2018, a new specialization for the certificate, BTM - Financial Services, will be offered. Click here for details.

The International Experiential Learning Certificate provides Business Major and Business Joint Major students with broad exposure to the global environment within which modern business is conducted. The certificate is earned through a combination of international activities, language acquisition and the study of a course related to the socio-economic and/or cultural environment in which the international activities will take place.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) provides training to help you develop skills such as creativity, adaptability, teamwork, communication, and implementation. Whether your goal is to be a part of a team or one day lead your own, your I&E skills will be a valuable asset in today’s fast-paced environment.

I'm working on starting EDGE SFU to support students who might not have the same opportunities as other students. The goal is to help to provide financial support, scholarships, and job postings. It’s a lot of work getting this club off the ground, but I enjoy helping other students.

The most important thing is to get involved. It’s up to you to make this as enriching as possible, and all you have to do is raise your hand to volunteer or participate in events and clubs.

Irene Chang

The flexibility SFU Beedie offers enabled me to combine my interests in my joint major in international business and economics, but also offered so much through experiential learning and opportunities to get involved. There is so much that the time passes very quickly, so it’s important to make the most of it while you can.

You will never know unless you try. There are always going to be opportunities to add value – it's just a matter of how you view it. Whether it is signing up for a case competition, or events and information sessions, or reaching out to senior students to ask them about their experiences, make the most of it and get involved.
