Career Tip of the Week!

Posted on:

Career Tip of the Week (February 2nd – 6th):  The Last Paragraph of the Cover Letter

To make yourself stand out, you need to end your cover letter on a strong note!  Start by summarizing what makes you an excellent candidate for the position.  (Make sure to word this sentence differently from the last sentence in your first paragraph).  Next, write a sentence that indicates how you will follow up.  A phone call is always best.  For example, you could say something such as ‘I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss my qualifications in greater detail and will contact you next Thursday to follow up in regards to the status of my application.’  Make sure to write down when you stated you would follow up and be sure to call the employer on that day!!  (However, don’t contact the company if it states NOT to in the job posting).  Finally, thank the reader for his/her time and consideration.
