CA Recruit: Networking and Business Etiquette Workshop – Thursday, July 23

Posted on:

In preparation for the fall CA Recruit season, please consider attending CMC’s Networking and Business Etiquette workshop which will be held on July 23rd (visit the Business Career Network for more details and to RSVP as space is limited to 30).  During CA Recruit there will be hundreds of students applying for a limited number of job opportunities with the firms.  Therefore, it’s really important that the firm reps get a chance to interact with you at networking events to experience how you handle initiating a conversation, how professional, confident and genuine you are, how prepared you are in terms of the questions you ask, and how you present yourself overall.  After all, the firms need to determine whether or not you would be a good representative of their firm to clients if they hired you.

Sure, some students are pretty outgoing, have had lots of practice networking and have a knack for it.  But if you’re like the large majority of students, you feel nervous about networking; have no idea what to say to firm reps or what questions to ask them.  You’re not alone.  Networking can be a very intimidating experience for a student who has not had much experience with it.   However, networking and business etiquette are crucial to your success during CA Recruit.  This workshop will get you started with useful tips and strategies to prepare for and improve your success at networking events.

Career Tip of the Week (June 29th to July 3rd): Expressing Your Skill Set

Posted on:

Accomplishment statements can be used, not only in the Professional Experience section of your resume, but also while you’re networking and even during interviews.  You should aim to provide a tailored overview of your experience and skills with specific examples to support them.  Most employers will use your past experience to predict your future performance, which is why the proof is so important.  For examples and further information on accomplishment statements, please refer to the Transferable Skills and Professional Business Resumes guides in the Document Library section of Career Network!
