[Volunteer Opportunity] SFU Global Agents for Change – Deadline August 6

Posted on:

SFU Business is proud to bring back The Global Agents for Change!

Founded in fall of 2006 by a dedicated group of SFU students and young professionals, Global Agents for Change (Global AFC) has grown incredibly quickly and has made an impact both locally and globally. Today, Global AFC mobilizes young people to explore social issues and effect change in their local and global communities.

SFU Global AFC will be seeking student leaders for these upcoming projects:

Riding to Break the Cycle (RTBTC)

RTBTC is the largest program offered by the Global AFC and has raised nearly $200,000 to date. The program is a series of bike tours to raise funds for enterprise development. A group of campus volunteers, with the aid of a chosen project manager, will facilitate student recruitment for upcoming world tours. For more information regarding the Global AFC tours, please visit www.globalafc.org.

Education Generation Fundraising

Global AFC operates an education fundraising platform called Education Generation. Education Generation believes education to be a fundamental right and a powerful force to break the cycle of poverty. To date, over $30,000 has been raised and 150 students, who otherwise would not have had the chance, have been placed in schools. Global AFC is seeking a group of student entrepreneurs to manage the task of continuous funding for this worthy cause. For more information regarding Education Generation, please visit www.educationgeneration.org.

SFU Leadership Grant

In partnership with LEAD SFU, a chosen volunteer will work to provide modest financial backing to SFU students who need initial financial support in launching innovative, grass-roots projects, aimed at creating positive social change off campus.

RTBTC Pledge Ride

On Sept 17th, 2010 a joint ride will occur from both SFU and UBC campuses, which will meet at a central location. In addition to building unity among the chapters of the Global AFC, the ride will aim to familiarize students with the objectives of the Global AFC and recruit for the coming world tours. A chosen group of volunteers will manage the marketing, logistics, as well as internal communications to plan the Pledge Ride.

To submit your application for The Global AFC, please complete and email the attached application to SFU.GAFC@gmail.com by NO LATER THAN FRIDAY AUGUST 6TH @ 6:00 PM.

If you have any questions or wish to receive additional information on the upcoming projects of the Global AFC, please contact Sharif Entezari at sea5@sfu.ca.

Subset of the main awards are awards by geographic region (e.g. BC’s Top 50 Employers) and awards for achievements in specific focus areas including: new Canadians, Diversity, Greenest and New Grads. The New Grad review can include information on highlights for new grads, hiring locations, typical positions for new grads, typical academic backgrounds, average starting salary and number of new entry level positions last year.
