Here is the address from the chair:

“Dear Prospective Delegate,

We cordially invite you to the 2011 University of Waterloo Accounting Conference (UWAC), taking place from May 6th – May 8th, 2011. Each year, the conference strives to attract the best and brightest accounting and business students from across Canada in order to foster new learning and growth experiences as well as invaluable relationship building opportunities.

UWAC is the first university conference with a unique focus on accounting and on the issues surrounding the financial world. We are committed to the open exchange of ideas, in relation to the accounting profession as well as to accounting students, being brought to the forefront of our discussions, as well as the development of professional relationships amongst students.

Every year, UWAC attracts relevant and engaging speakers with a wide variety of accounting experience and perspectives. In addition to inviting prominent speakers and hosting dynamic workshops, UWAC also features a $1,000 case competition, based on a real-world company in order to create a challenging yet applicable case for our delegates.

“Measuring the Stakes,” the theme of this year’s conference, encompasses our belief that accounting is focused on risk management, including the measurement and mitigation of risk. This year’s theme demonstrates the importance of accounting at each level of risk management as well as the effects it can have on the future position of an organization.

UWAC is an excellent growth opportunity for all students interested in accounting at any level. Registration opens in early January to all delegates. We invite and encourage all students interested in the field to attend this extraordinary event. We hope to see you there!”

Career Tip of the Week: January 31 – February 6

What would employers see on your Facebook account?

More and more employers are using social networking sites to screen candidates so be prepared if you have a profile on one of these sites.  Pictures and comments with offensive content will not impress an employer.  Making negative comments about a previous employer is also a bad idea.  Make sure you set your privacy settings so that only your friends can view your profile and never accept a friend request from someone you don’t know.  It is a good idea to have one site for friends (ex. MySpace or Facebook) and another for your professional contacts (ex. LinkedIn).
