[SIFE] Let’s Can Hunger Contest: How Creative CAN You Get? | Deadline: December 5

Posted on:

At SIFE Simon Fraser’s Let’s Can Hunger, we aim to reduce hunger problems for the local community, as well as to help them achieve a sustainable life. If you are interested in an opportunity to show off your creativity for a PRIZE, take part in SIFE Let’s Can Hunger’s latest campaign,How Creative CAN You Get?”.

Why: Food Banks BC states that 87 food banks in British Columbia help feed over 70,000 people each month; however, the majority of food banks receive NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING and depend on the public to help in the fight against hunger. For that reason SIFE Simon Fraser takes part in a campaign called Let’s Can Hunger to increase awareness of hunger among young people in British Columbia.

What: Each type of canned good has its very own design; we would like to see how you can make your own unique design! There are no limitations to what you do with the can whether it’s making partial changes, a complete makeover, or stacking cans together to create a can sculpture!

When: Competition has started!  Deadline to submit your design is December 5th, 2011.

How: Take a picture and submit your work to marketing@sifesimonfraser.com. Your design will be put up onhttp://www.facebook.com/#!/sifesimonfraser for people to vote on. Once you’ve submitted your design, we really encourage that you also donate your canned good with the design to our SIFE offices at Burnaby: WMC 2371 or at Surrey: 5010.  We will then donate the canned goods to the SFU food bank to distribute to the local community.

Why: Owner of most liked picture will win a 50 Dollars Gift Card to Best Buy!

At the same time, a random draw will decide 2 lucky winners to a 20 Dollars Gift Card to Tim Hortons each.

Bet you’re all pumped up!  In the case that you don’t actually have time to make your own design, feel free to browse other participants’ submissions on http://www.facebook.com/#!/sifesimonfraser and vote for the one you like best!

[Marketing] Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec Case Competition | Deadline: January 23

Posted on:

Are you looking for outstanding business experience on your resume?

Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec is a national advertising and marketing case competition run by McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business. Students are challenged to create a five million dollar marketing campaign for the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Spark! Each member of the winning team is awarded their own 2013 Chevrolet Spark and the title of ‘Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec’. Last year, Isaiah Baldissera and Carolina Dubanik from SFU made it to the top 10.

With over $30,000 in prizes, including two $2,500 scholarships and two $1,000 scholarships, now is your chance! You could win a scholarship, prizes, and maybe even the keys to your very own 2013 Chevrolet Spark. PLUS the chance to network with industry execs, and earn internships in marketing and communications along the way.

The Details
The competition is open to any full time undergraduate business or commerce student, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) student or undergraduate student completing a minor in business or commerce. Registration is on a team basis, with maximum two people per team.

The top 25 pitches will be selected to move on to Phase Two in the competition.

Phase #2: Strategy Document

The next task for the teams is to create a comprehensive report outlining key objectives, positioning, media strategy, creative execution and executive summary. The top 10 will be selected for a final round of competition.

Phase #3: Final Presentation
Deadline: To be presented in Toronto on March 25th, 2012

Reasons to apply for an executive position:
• (1) Knowledge – Taking a leadership role in SFUIC will expand not just your knowledge of investments and finance, but will also broaden your skills in project management, communication, and marketing, just to name a few.

• (3) Employability – Companies increasingly want people with more than just grades and work experience – leadership, volunteering, and teamwork are key, and you can get experience with all of them as an SFUIC executive. Don’t take it from me – ask some of our current/past executives, who have used their SFUIC experiences to secure jobs/internships at companies like HSBC, Accenture, Jordan Capital Markets, UBS, RIM, and Investors Group.

Worried about applying? Don’t be – several current executives will stay on the Board of Advisors to help the new executive team adapt to their roles, and you’ll find managing the club to be exciting, rewarding, and fun! The current executive team all started with no club management experience, and we’ve been able to do some great things with the club. So, how can you apply?

Amar Klino
