By challenging them to engage with their broader communities, experiential education enables students to synthesize their knowledge , skills , and values to leverage change beyond the classroom.

KPMG’s Fast Forward Leadership Conference is an interactive training program and valuable learning experience that can provide you with tools to enhance your leadership skills and help develop you to your full potential as a professional. The program will be held in Hollywood, California from Wednesday, July 18th through Friday, July 20th, 2012.

This program is designed for individuals who have not yet been through the internship recruiting process, have approximately 2 or 3 years remaining of their education, and have an interest in beginning their career in public accounting.

TD Canada Trust Teaching Award Call for Nominations | Nomination Deadline: March 31

To all Business Students, Alumni & Faculty:

The TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Award is an endowment by TD Canada Trust, with a matching grant from the B.C. Provincial Government, to provide two annual distinguished teaching awards for instructors teaching in the Beedie School of Business undergraduate or graduate Business programs.

Nominations for the 2012 award are requested. There may be up to two awards each year. You can access the nomination form as well as an information page on the nomination rules & eligibility through the Student Portal on the Beedie website, using the following link: http://beedie.sfu.ca/current-students/teaching-award/index.php

Dr. Hernan Eduardo de Solminihac Tampier, the Minister of Mining of Chile, will be discussing the economic situation in Chile and how the government is working towards accomplishing their goals in 2012 and beyond.

Hernan Eduardo de Solminihac Tampier is the Minister of Mining. Previously he was Minister of Public Works of Chile.

Dr. de Solminihac obtained his Civil Engineer Professional Title at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (UC) in March of 1982, his MSc (1986) and PhD (1992) at The University of Texas, Austin (UT). He was dean of the School of Engineering and professor of the College of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.

He was Director of the Direction of Technological and Scientific Researches (DICTUC) from March 1998 until February 2004.

In February 2010, Sebastian Pinera, the elected President of Chile, invited him to join his cabinet. The new government took office in March 2010 with Hernan de Solminihac sworn in as the Minister of Public Works. From March 2010 until July 2011 was in charge of the Ministry of Public Works. At the end of July 2011 he assume as Ministry of Mining.

[Community Event] Banquet Bootcamp: Networking Etiquette Workshops | February 29 & March 6

Would you like to learn what it takes to have a competitive edge in a networking environment?

The Student Engagement Office will be holding two sessions of Banquet Bootcamp just in time for banquet season. Banquet Bootcamp is a networking etiquette workshop which teaches students proper networking techniques, how to dress for success, and proper dining etiquette.

These workshops are taking place in perfect time for events such as BASS BanquetFinance NightIBA Gala,HRSA Spring Soirée, and the International Women’s DayConference.

The sessions will be taking place on:

  1. February 29th

in WMC 2230 from 2:30-4:30pm

  • March 6th in WMC 2220 from 10:30-12:30pm

    Victoria Maybee is the External Relations Manager at Procter & Gamble leading the home care, fabric care and power categories in addition to brand sustainability initiatives. In her role, Victoria shapes not only public relations and communications strategies, but also seeks to build positive and collaborative relationships with a number of external stakeholders including NGO’s, spokespeople, media and bloggers. A graduate of the University of Alberta, Victoria has previously worked in customer business development and in finance at IBM and the Office of the Auditor General of Canada.

    Are you interested in becoming a part of the largest student-run undergraduate Business competition in Western Canada?

     

    In your position as Godparent, you will be third-in-command for the 50-person delegation next to the Co-Captains. You will work alongside the Co-Captains and Organizing Committee by performing a wide variety of tasks for this position.

     

     

    Your term will begin in March 2012 and will end in mid-January 2012.

     

    The following items listed below are the expected responsibilities of the Godparent:

     

    • Oversee the academic, athletics and social try-outs
    • Help with logistics for the mock competitions in the Fall semester
    • Oversee training for the athletics and social teams
    • Assist Co-Captains in meeting deadlines for the JDC West 2013 season
    • Attend JDC West in Vancouver (January 2013) and assist Co-Captains in leading and motivating the team — inclusive of a variety of tasks
    • Offer ideas/suggestions for fundraisers, performances and events pertaining to JDC West
    • Attend all JDC West team meetings, fundraisers and events
