(Summer 2012)

 

• Are you a confident writer?

• Are you interested in volunteer work that makes a meaningful

difference in a person’s life and career?

 

The Beedie School of Business is recruiting new volunteers to act as

Writing Mentors to undergraduate students taking business courses.

 

Your Role

Beedie School Writing Mentors guide undergraduate writers in many areas

of business and academic writing. Drawing on your strong writing skills,

you will teach your fellow students how to improve their writing.

 

Your Commitment

Mentors will receive 12 hours of specialized training in May 2012. After

successfully completing the training, mentors will volunteer approximately 2

hours each week over the course of two semesters.

 

Qualifications

• strong writing ability

• sound knowledge of the English language and rules of grammar and punctuation

• patient, enjoy helping people, good communicator

• tutoring experience in any subject (preferred)

• a grade of “B+” or higher in BUS 360W

ConocoPhillips Canada Centennial Scholarship Program

Financial Aid and Awards is accepting applications for the ConocoPhillips Canada Centennial Scholarship Program 2012-2013.

To apply, please refer to the attached program guidelines and application form.

Completed applications must be submitted to the SFU Financial Aid and Awards office by Friday May 18, 2012.

The applications will be adjudicated at SFU. Only the successful applications will be nominated to AUCC (Association of Universities and Colleagues in Canada).

The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada is pleased to announce the following scholarship program:

ConocoPhillips Canada Centennial Scholarship Program

Objective

To support young Canadian visionaries who have a drive to make a difference in the future. The scholarship program encourages individuals with academic excellence and demonstrated leadership. The Centennial scholarship program will have a national presence and will create a legacy for ConocoPhillips Canada Centennial year.

Number of Awards

Up to four 4 scholarships at the bachelor degree level or at the diploma level. Students are allowed to apply for an award in only one category.

Fields of study/Program requirements:
-2 awards are offered to students pursuing Petroleum studies;
-1 award is offered to students pursuing environmental/sustainable development studies
-1 award is offered to students in any field of study or discipline
-Programs of study must be of a minimum two-year duration
-University preparatory programs in any jurisdiction are not eligible (e.g. CEGEPs-pre-university diploma).

Requirements for eligibility:

Eligible applicants must have:
-a minimum average of 70% (or the equivalent) over the last two semesters of available marks;
-be nominated by an eligible institution;
-be Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.

Value:

Up to $5,000 CAD per year for a diploma program, tenable for up to two consecutive years or until first diploma is obtained and includes:
-up to $2,500 maximum per year for tuition and compulsory fees;
-$2,500 per year towards living expenses.

Up to $10,000 CAD per year for a bachelor degree program, tenable for up to two consecutive years or until first degree is obtained and includes:
-up to $5,000 maximum per year for tuition and compulsory fees;
-$5,000 per year towards living expenses.

Canadian Society for Marketing Professional Services (CSMPS) 2012 Scholarship

OVERVIEW: Emphasizing our motto of “Connecting People. Sharing Resources”, CSMPS is committed to the professional services industry, providing opportunities for professional growth, education and networking. BASS and Finance Club are now looking for 2 dedicated individuals who are interested in becoming Project Managers for this year’s Charity Golf Tournament!

As project manager, you will be responsible for leading an organizing committee to successfully oversee all aspects of the event, from the initial planning to the actual execution on the day of the Tournament. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to expand your network, gain practical leadership skills, interact with Corporate Sponsors, and ultimately make a lasting impact on the business community. Commitment Level: This position will last until the end of July 2012, when the event takes place. It will take around 3+ hours a week, as a lot of planning is involved in a short period of time.
