Business Writing Mentors Now Available!Nov 10, 2016
The Beedie Writing Mentors are now available to help your students improve their writing and language skills until the end of the term. In the 10+ years that the program has been operating, we have helped thousands of business students improve their writing and language skills.
The service is available for undergraduate business students only and currently offered at the Burnaby Campus, WMX 4371. To book appointments and view the weekly drop-in schedule, please visit Beedie Community.
Note: Beedie Community will be unavailable from Nov. 22-24. Drop-ins and appointments can be scheduled via a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside the office (WMC 4371) during the outage.
Appointments are pre-booked through Beedie Community. Appointments are highly sought after and often fill up quickly; you can sign-up for a maximum of one appointment each week. Be as thorough as possible in terms of providing information when signing up to give your chosen mentor an idea of what you would like to work on. Each appointment runs for a maximum of 1 hour. You can, however, go to the drop-in sessions in addition to your appointment.
NOTE: Appointments are in high demand; if you need to cancel a booked appointment, you must do so at least two hours in advance of the starting time. Late cancellations/no-shows will forfeit the opportunity to book appointments/attend drop-ins for a two-week period.
Each drop-in visit lasts a maximum of 30 minutes. These visits are not pre-booked: they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Just come by the mentor office (WMX 4371) when the sessions are running. There is no limit to how many drop-in sessions you can attend each week. In addition to these drop-ins, you are welcome to book a 1-hour appointment each week with a mentor (subject to availability) through Beedie Community.
NOTE: If a designated appointment hour is not pre-booked or a student does not show up for an appointment, the appointment will run as two drop-in sessions.
Weekly drop-in and appointment schedules are posted on Beedie Community at least one week in advance.
To make the best of your time with your mentor, please come prepared:
- Bring a piece of writing and picture I.D. (e.g. student card, driver’s licence); remember that mentors do not edit/proofread—they help you to improve your skills
- Have an idea of what kind of help you think you need
- If you are working on an assignment, bring a copy of your instructor’s instructions for the assignment.
