Simon Fraser University is the proud Academic Partner of NEXT Canada, who deliver three programs for exceptional entrepreneurs including Next 36 and NextAI. Learn more about Next 36, where you could be one of the 36 promising entrepreneurs equipped with CEO mentorship, up to $60,000 in seed capital and world class academic instruction.

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about NextAI, NEXT Canada’s third program. NextAI is a startup accelerator for AI-enabled ventures. Ventures receive up to $200,000, workspace in Toronto and access to top technology platforms, scientists, and corporate mentorship.

If you’re up for the challenge, join us at the info session where you can speak with NEXT staff and alumni about the rewarding experience, 2018 application deadlines and also, that intense National Selection Weekend everyone’s talking about.

Next 36 and NextAI are suited for individuals with or without a founding team. They are for entrepreneurs with existing start-ups and also those who want to build something new. They provide flexibility for founders already working on a startup and also those looking to build something brand new.

Jon French
Director of Marketing and Communications, NEXT Canada
Jon joined The Next 36 (now NEXT Canada) in April 2011 and is responsible for marketing, communications and recruitment with an emphasis on attracting high potential entrepreneurs to the organization’s three programs. Jon manages relationships with prospective applicants, student organizations, national partners, university representatives and members of the start-up community. Prior to joining NEXT Canada, Jon was Associate Director, Career Information with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) where he spent almost ten years promoting the CA designation to students across Ontario.

He has been actively involved with the Canadian Association of Career Educators & Employers, where he sat on the National Board of Directors from 2007-2010. Most recently, Jon has joined the Advisory Boards for Venture for Canada and the MLSE Foundation: 3TO6 Team. Jon has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, a BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and an International Business Diploma from Vaxjo University in Sweden.

Jessica Bilmer
Co-founder, ElleBox
Jessica Bilmer graduated from the University of British Columbia in May 2016. Passionate for learning she majored in Education and Health Studies. In her final year of her undergrad she co-founded a company called ElleBox. ElleBox is subscription ecommerce service catered to women’s periods; every month ElleBox delivers 100% organic cotton menstrual hygiene products as well as surprise tea, chocolate and self-care gifts. Jessica went on to be a fellow in Hootsuite’s Charitable Organization, “The Next Big Thing”, before moving to Toronto as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Next Canada’s, “The Next 36”. She was also a part of the 500 Startups Batch 21 in Mountain View, California. With no formal business education or technical background, Jessica and her co-founders bootstrapped ElleBox’s revenue to 110K in their first fiscal year.

William Brenner
Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder, Orello Hearing Technologies
William is committed to building technology that better the lives of individuals. He is a recent graduate of the Beedie School of Business and was a member of the Next36 2017 cohort. He is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Orello Hearing Technologies where he works on creating affordable hearing aid options for people around the world.
