May 01, 2009

A undergraduate team from SFU Business came out First Place at the prestigious L’Oréal EStrat International Finals. EStrat is one of the world’s biggest online business simulation competition. In this 9th annual edition of EStrat, the competition attracted over 40,000 students from around the world. The team, consisting of SFU Business students Tim Coleman, Helen Lu, and Jessica Wang, managed a virtual portfolio of beauty brands and competed for worldwide leadership against 4 other virtual companies during six rounds over two months. Taking the role of heads of the virtual cosmetics firms, the team faced new market situations and challenges during each of the six rounds as they created strategies and made critical decisions about all aspects of the company.

The team came out on top out of all other teams in North America and Australia to represent the region at the International Finals in Paris on April 22, 2009. Out of the 8 international finalist teams in the undergraduate category, SFU’s team impressed the judges with their analysis of the cosmetics industry, effective strategies, and creative presentation and took First Place among all the undergraduate finalist teams. Their winning prize is a 10,000 € trip to the destination of their choice. Congratulations!
