The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia seeks an outstanding candidate for a tenure-track position in Management & Organization Studies, beginning July 1, 2024 (Rank Assistant Professor).

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have passion for and demonstrated abilities in delivering high-quality, scholarly research, and teaching excellence. Research interests consistent with Beedie’s strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and a global perspective is a plus, however, high-quality research in any domain will be considered. They should have the ability to engage with communities of practice and make an impact through their research. Applicants should have a PhD degree (although ABD near completion will be considered) in human resource management, organizational behaviour/theory, management or a closely-related business field (e.g., sociology, IO psychology).

Duties

The successful candidate will teach courses such as Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, Leadership, Negotiations, Organization Theory, Organizational Development and Change Management, Employment Systems, Group Dynamics. As a leading research university, the successful candidates will be expected to contribute to Beedie’s research excellence and collaborative academic community through service.

Located on the unceded Coast Salish Territory - the traditional territories of the Squamish (Sḵwxw̱ ú7mesh Úxwumixw), Musqueam (xwməθkwəy̓əm), Tsleil-Waututh, Katzie, and Kwikwetlem peoples, SFU is actively building an increasingly diverse and inclusive community.

Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association.  A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role at the Assistant Professor Rank is $160,000-$170,000, dependent on experience and inclusive of a market differential.

Candidates for the Assistant Professor position must have a PhD; however, PhD candidates with a solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon completion of the PhD. A reasonable estimate for the salary range if the successful candidate will be starting as an Instructor is $154,397-$164,397.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to excellence in research and scholarship through high quality publications, and help guide research efforts in their areas of expertise and in connection to Beedie’s strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and a global perspective. In addition to research, individuals should have experience or aptitude to contribute to Beedie’s teaching excellence through teaching either financial accounting and/or managerial accounting and/or auditing at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will also have the ability to engage with communities of practice and make an impact through their research. A PhD in Accounting is required and professional accounting designation and experience teaching data analytics would be assets for this position.

Qualifications for Assistant Professor

Candidates for the Assistant Professor position should have a record of publications in reputable journals or evidence of a strong pipeline of papers under review. There should be also be clear indications that the individual has the aptitudes of a successful teacher, the potential to grow in stature as a scholar, as well as a willingness to play an active role in the University. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Accounting by the employment start date; however, PhD candidates with solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon completion of the PhD.

Qualifications for Associate Professor

Candidates for the Associate Professor position should have an established record of excellence in research and scholarship. The successful candidate is expected to have developed a clear program of research and be able to show prospects for future and ongoing contributions to the literature within their field. With regards to teaching, it is expected that a candidate will have demonstrated ongoing development of instructional effectiveness over a limited range of courses, as well as teaching-related contributions. A record of participation in service to their university and the community is also required.

Duties

As SFU is a leading research university, successful candidates will be expected to contribute to Beedie’s research excellence. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, or auditing at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. In addition, the successful candidate will actively participate in Beedie’s collegial self-governance and offer assistance and guidance to students, peers and the academic community through activities such as committee work, mentorship and experiential learning opportunities.

Candidates with experience commensurate with higher rank may also be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor rank.  A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role at the Associate Professor rank is $190,000-$200,000, dependent on experience and inclusive of a market differential.
