Meet the Staff

If you have any questions about ways to get involved, share your expertise, or recruit on campus, we invite you to contact us:

Christine Sjolander, BBA, MScEng
Director, Graduate Career Management Centre and Employer Engagement

Christine oversees the Graduate Career Management Centre and employer engagement strategy across both the undergraduate and graduate programs. With more than twenty years in career development services at both the undergraduate and MBA levels at Canadian and US universities, she brings a range of individual and group experience, a large corporate network, and a penchant for new ideas to her role. She is the primary contact person for EMBA and MOT students as well as for general questions about the CMC.  Her professional experience also includes contingency recruiting for leading biotechnology and technology companies in the United States. Christine holds an undergraduate degree in business and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Alfred University, and is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Education at SFU.

When not at work, Christine can often be found curled up on the couch with her greyhound, Shirley, with a glass of Okanagan wine and this week’s journal articles in hand. A former Californian, she hasn’t come to terms with the rainy Vancouver winters, so she retreats to the beaches of Hawaii, Mexico, Napa Valley, or other warm climates whenever possible.

Christine Barnett, BA
Associate Director, Employer Engagement

Christine joined the team in August 2016. She oversees the employer engagement team and strategies for SFU Beedie including CMC programs such as Spotlight on Industry Speaker Series, Company Office Tours, Job Fairs, Executive and Classroom Speakers, and the Mentors in Business program. You may recognize Christine from her previous role of 11 years as the Campus Recruitment Manager for SFU's Career and Volunteer Services Centre (under the name Christine Gilbert). Christine brings experience from many different industries: Student Advising (Career, Academic and Co-op), ESL Education, Cooperative Education, Corporate Recruitment, Telecommunications and Banking.

When not at work, Christine enjoys being a suburban soccer mom, dance mom, dancer, gardener and thrift store shopper; hanging out at home with her family and fur-kids; enjoying other peoples' cooking; and counting the days until her annual trip to Cabo San Lucas.
