We tailor our services to match the needs of students in each graduate program and provide coaching and career services specific to each industry sector.

MBA

The 12-month full-time MBA program provides students with a broad portfolio of skills and prepares them for a lifetime of career opportunities. The curriculum builds a foundation in functional management areas (finance, accounting, marketing, operations, economics, strategy) and exploratory courses illuminate new perspectives on ethics, leadership and team-building, cross-cultural management and sustainability.

An integral component of the MBA program, which provides students with essential work experience and facilitates a smooth transition into the workplace, is the two-to-eight month internship, which begins once academic courses are completed in full. The internship is a perfect opportunity to apply what has been learned in the classroom, see an organization in action, create connections and identify possible positions for the future.

Career Management Centre staff work with you from day one of your program, grooming you to become a sought-after candidate for internships and post-MBA longer term career opportunities. Students have lifetime access to our online resources through Beedie Community, and three years of post-graduation personalized career coaching.

MOT MBA

The Management of Technology MBA (MOT MBA) focuses on the business aspects of technology. It adopts a process view of organizations with a project management mindset. The program is a dynamic mix of solid academic theory enhanced by practical experiences designed to mirror challenging situations students will face in the technology business environment. Innovation and entrepreneurship drive a curriculum that embraces change and challenges students to learn new ways of framing problems and creating solutions.

The Biotechnology specialization focuses on the issues and process of the biotechnology industry. The Biotech stream of the MOT MBA program provides the business knowledge, strategic insight, and regulatory overview to transition from scientific responsibilities to business development and commercialization of new products.

The CMC supports the MOT MBA program with the following:

Applied Research Project

The CMC helps source and manage students’ Applied Research Project, which brings academic theory and previous work experience together. Students tackle real business problems for client organizations, using the knowledge they acquired and skills they honed in developing a feasible and optimal solution. Each student produces a strategic analysis and recommendation, a business plan or detailed analysis and recommendation for a specific problem for a client organization.

Executive Speaker Series

The MBA Executive Speaker Series is a forum where CEOs, senior executives and entrepreneurs from some of the most influential technology companies in Canada share their experiences and insights.

EMBA

The Executive MBA program builds upon the work experience of the students and provides learning opportunities that are applicable immediately on the job. It is designed to develop leadership skills and core capabilities in strategic analysis, change management and a global perspective.

The main focus of CMC's role with Executive MBA students is on coaching. Specialized workshops such as career mapping and self assessment utilizing Strengthsfinder (based on the highly acclaimed book the Gallop Organization, Now Discover Your Strengths) are provided to enhance skill sets and support career growth for future executive responsibilities.

M. Sc. Finance

The Master of Science in Finance (M.Sc. Finance) program places an emphasis on both technical and analytical abilities. The first term is designed to provide foundations in financial economics, econometrics, derivative securities and enterprise-wide strategic risk management. Courses in the second and third terms supplement and extend these foundations to various specialized topics such as credit, insurance and market risk. These topics provide the framework for students to choose the focus of their Project, an in-depth research paper on one aspect of the risk management spectrum.

The CMC works with all of Canada’s banks and most of the Risk Management Departments of the large financial firms. Given the recent issues with unknown risk in the financial markets, there has been a tremendous increase in recruitment from the program.

In the M.Sc. Finance program, the CMC runs the Executive Speaker Series, which brings industry expertise and experience to the classroom to share their knowledge in risk- and finance-related topics. In this very intimate setting, it's an ideal opportunity for building relationships and networking with some of the country's outstanding executives in financial services.
