Centre Community
The Centre acts as a forum for developing self-organizing groupings of researchers from different disciplines and from different institutions across the world, all concerned with understanding and assisting the management of technology-based firms (see SFU Centre Associates and External Centre Associates).
The Centre also supports the research and training activities of Masters, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral researchers (see Centre Scholars) and has hosted a number of Visiting Scholars.

Centre Scholars
The Centre supports the training and development of next generation management research talent at the Masters, Ph.D. and Post Doctoral Level.
- Martin Bliemel - Martin Bliemel is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Faculty of Business Administration at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada. He is researching how high-tech entrepreneurs build and use their social networks while developing their new venture. Prior to pursuing his Ph.D. Martin spent three years as a business consultant helping entrepreneurs with their business plans, market research and investor pitches. His past education includes a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and M.B.A., both from Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada.
- Brian Gordon - Brian Gordon is a Ph.D. candidate in Business Administration at Simon Fraser University. His primary research interests include theories of organizational knowledge creation and strategic entrepreneurship. At present, the focus of his research is on constructing models of the knowledge generation process in R&D organizations and building theories of entrepreneurial action, innovation and strategy. Before joining SFU, Brian worked at Raymond James & Associates as a Mutual Fund Research Analyst and as a Research Associate in the firm's equity research division. Brian has an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in psychology from UCLA.
- Masoud Shadram - Working with Dr. Tom Lawrence, Masoud is involved in research that is examining innovation and organizational change in the field of drug addiction in Vancouver and across Canada. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in System Analysis, from the Department of Industrial Engineering at Sharif University of Technology, and a Master of Management degree, from the Graduate School of Management and Economics at Sharif University of Technology.
- Colin Campbell - Colin is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Marketing at Simon Fraser University. Colin first joined SFU as an undergraduate student in 2000 and later completed a joint concentration BBA specializing in Marketing and Economics. He then went to the University of British Columbia where he completed a Masters of Arts in Economics before returning to SFU in 2006 to pursue a Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Leyland Pitt. Working closely with his supervisor, Colin is currently researching a variety of areas including networks, consumer generated advertising, relationship marketing, and electronic commerce.
- Brian Wixted - Brian is a Research Associate with Centre for Biotechnology Management and CPROST at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. During his employment with the Australian Commonwealth Public Service he worked on science, technology and innovation indicators analysis (1989-1995) and agricultural and resources science and innovation policy (1995-2000). The latter work was particularly focused on biotechnology policy. From 2000 to 2004 Brian worked for a University research centre in Australia and moved to Canada in 2005. Brian’s research interests focus on the multi-regional nature of innovation systems and the business and organizational dimensions of configuring particular production and innovation systems. Brian has completed research projects for, among others, the Australian, Canadian, Mozambican, New South Wales and New Zealand Governments, and for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
