Terms of Reference
- To illicit, review, approve and promote international initiatives affecting students and their programs of study, originating within the Faculty of Business Administration.
- To ensure that proposals for international activities meet the conditions and criteria established by the University Policy on International Activities, and by the University Policy on Service Contracts.
- To ensure all appropriate stakeholders in both the Graduate and Undergraduate programs within the Faculty of Business Administration are duly consulted prior to the initiation of any proposed international activities.
- To advise the Dean with respect to the desirability of entering into international activities that are proposed to be undertaken by the Faculty of Business Administration on the basis of a contract, contribution agreement, exchange agreement, letter of understanding, or similar document.
- To maintain an overview and familiarity with international agreements entered into by academic or administrative units within the Faculty of Business Administration.
- To report to the Dean each semester on new international initiatives and the ongoing internationalization of the student body.
Procedures
- The Committee shall be provided with copies of international activity proposals and whatever other information is needed to administer this Policy, based on procedures to be determined by the Committee.
- Every proposal (including but not limited to exchange agreements, field school proposals, new programs, etc.) shall indicate that it has the approval of the appropriate Chair or Director and Faculty Dean and shall contain a statement of goals and objectives, a clear disclosure of the proposed activities and a budget.
- Proposals shall be submitted to the Undergraduate Office for distribution to the Committee.
- The Committee shall review each proposal to ensure compliance with the University Policy on International Activities and shall recommend acceptance, modification or rejection to the Dean. New proposals that affect credentials need to be approved by the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee before proceeding to committees outside of the Faculty of Business. Where approval of the Senate or the Board of Governors is required, the Dean shall inform the appropriate body(ies) of the Committee's recommendation.
- Where there is concern on the part of IAC that any international activity which uses the Faculty’s name or resources may be in non-compliance with this Policy, the Committee shall be entitled to receive further information and shall report to the Dean regarding any violations that may be discovered.
- Copies of international activity contracts or other agreements shall be provided to SFU International where they shall be kept on file and be open for inspection by members of the University community.
- Any changes to these terms of reference must be approved by the International Activities Committee and ratified by the Dean.
