Learning Experience

It’s about more than the credential

Today's business world calls for effective teamwork, close collaboration and clear communications. We use the cohort model, where students work in the same teams for the first year of the EMBA.

By working closely with your team and coaches, all of you benefit. It's the perfect place to test and improve your leadership and teamwork skills.

Simulated leadership teams

For the duration of the program, you will be part of a team created to mimic a senior leadership team. Each team contains someone with expertise in finance, marketing, operations and other functional areas. In this diverse group, team members take turns being the project leader. You will learn how to capitalize on each others’ strengths for mutual benefit—a skill directly transferable to the workplace.

Learn from your peers

The classroom is a forum of talented and experienced business professionals, ready to fully engage on wide-ranging business topics. It’s a place to learn from peers as well as faculty, to broaden personal and career networks, and gain new perspectives on issues challenging organizations today.

Interactive learning environment

Classes are interactive and vary with lectures, cases, presentations and more. You work on projects in your small, self-managed team of six people for the duration of the program. The rich business, cultural and life experience of each student adds immeasurably to the class and team experience.

Experiential learning

Cases and projects bring leading business knowledge to life. Cases consist of real business scenarios that put you in the role of the decision maker. Assignments and class discussions mirror the challenging situations that you and your fellow students encounter in your professional lives.

A supportive environment

The Executive MBA provides a space to practice high-level decisions in a supportive environment. Unlike on the job, this is a program where it is safe to fail and learn from mistakes. Individual assignments allow you to apply what you’ve learned to solve problems for your organization. Teamwork brings together the complementary skills and diverse backgrounds of your cohort to develop creative solutions to complex problems.

International Americas MBA for Executives Stream

An optional second year stream offers the final term courses in four, intensive 9 day sessions at SFU Segal (Vancouver, Canada), Vanderbilt University (Nashville, USA), ITAM (Mexico City, Mexico) and FIA (Sao Paolo, Brazil). If you choose this elective you will join a new cohort of international Executive MBA students for the courses and final project. Learn more.
