Beedie faculty member wins Society for Consumer Psychology’s Early Career Award

The Society for Consumer Psychology has selected Brent McFerran, W.J. VanDusen Associate Professor of Marketing at the Beedie School of Business, as a co-winner of its Early Career Award. The award recognizes McFerran’s scientific contributions to consumer psychology. Cassie Mogilner Holmes, Associate Professor of Marketing at UCLA Anderson School of Management, was also named as a co-winner of the award.
The award was established in 2000 to recognize work of consumer psychologists early in their academic careers (less than eight years after receiving their doctorate).
“It is a tremendous honour to be chosen for this award,” says McFerran. “The Society for Consumer Psychology does fantastic work supporting and advancing consumer psychology, and their recognition means a great deal. I am thankful for the committee’s time and consideration.”
McFerran is a widely-published expert in consumer psychology. His research examines social and interpersonal influences in consumer, examining how the presence and actions of other consumers affect the choices we make ourselves. In addition, his work examines how social identity shapes consumption. He has recently published work on how consumers’ environmental behaviours are affected by the environmental efforts of corporate firms, and how an individual’s level of involvement in obtaining food influences their choice of healthy or unhealthy options.
