Blaize Reich awarded “Best Paper of 2007” by Project Management Journal.

Nov 20, 2008

Dr. Reich’s paper, “Managing Knowledge and Learning in IT projects – A Conceptual Framework and Guidelines for Practice”, recognizes that highly uncertain projects require an approach that focuses on learning and effectively creates, integrates and transfers knowledge to develop unique solutions. She develops a framework that can help organizations identify the key areas within their information technology (IT) projects where knowledge-based risks occur. By anticipating and managing these risks, project managers can increase their chance of success with complex IT projects.

The article was described as “a logically devised and soundly reasoned treatise on the importance…of growing better project managers in a climate that cultivates individualism, honesty and continuous professional learning” by interviewer Richard Brunelli in Projects@Work.

Dr. Reich leads the international research team, PMPerspectives Research Group, whose focus is on understanding and improving project management practices. The team includes Dr. Chris Sauer of Oxford University, Dr. Andrew Gemino of Simon Fraser University and Siew Yong Wee. They have developed a website to connect practicing project managers and sponsors with project management research and researchers.
