Business Professors Win 2008 Book of the Year Award

Pearson Education, Canada’s largest educational publisher, has selected a textbook by SFU Business professors Andrew Gemino and Peter Tingling as the 2008 Canadian Book of the Year. Entitled Experiencing MIS (Management Information Systems), it is a Canadian adaptation of an American textbook.
Gemino and Tingling co-wrote the Canadian version with David Kroenke to stimulate student interest in management information systems, a course experiencing declining enrolment at universities. It is a fresh approach for instructors looking for new and interesting ways to engage students in the fast-paced discipline of MIS.

“Students were telling us that the more traditional MIS textbooks were not engaging to read,” says Gemino. Experiencing MIS is a new generation resource for introductory MIS, created specifically to meet the diverse needs of Canadian business students. The Canadian version has 200 fewer pages, a new chapter on ethics and governance, and 16 new Canadian cases.
