SFU Business graduates led the way among BC’s emerging technology entrepreneurs at the 2010 BCIC Awards and BCIC-New Ventures Competition, held at SFU’s Segal Graduate School of Business on September 23.

Master of Technology MBA graduate Dr. Rhonda Wideman was awarded the 2010 BC Innovation Council’s Ripples of Hope Award for Biotechnology & Entrepreneurship for her collaborative work with PROOF on a commercialization initiative in the biotechnology industry to discover, develop and commercialize biomarkers for chronic kidney disease.

Hiretheworld.com, launched by SFU Business alumnus Terry Beech, won the prestigious $123,000 first prize from New Ventures BC, sponsored by BCIC. Hiretheworld makes it easy and inexpensive for new to midsized businesses to find, employ, manage and pay an on-demand geographically dispersed workforce.

New Ventures BC’s competition, which was founded in 2000 by SFU Business, takes place over four increasingly complex and competitive rounds with more than 100 applicants each year.
