RadiusRADIUS, the Beedie School of Business’ social innovation lab and venture incubator, has launched two new initiatives designed to transform students at Simon Fraser University into the next generation of game-changing social entrepreneurs.

The Social Innovation Grant Fund, delivered in partnership with Sustainable SFU, will provide financial support to students across SFU working on social innovation projects.

From December, students can apply for up to $1,000 in funding to advance initiatives, ventures, products, programs or processes intended to create positive social, economic or environmental transformation for SFU and its communities.

“We are excited to offer financial support to seed the development of social innovation projects and ventures by SFU students,” says Shawn Smith, Director of RADIUS. “The Social Innovation Grant Fund grant will enhance student access to early stage financial support, and advance the students’ projects to an impactful level.”

Beginning January 2015, the RADIUS Fellowship program will provide aspiring social entrepreneurs in the SFU community with the peer community, mentorship and tools needed to create social impact.

The program will support early stage social entrepreneurs and innovators who have demonstrated accomplishment and dedication in creating positive, sustainable impact on social issues.

“The RADIUS Fellowship program will provide a nurturing environment to catalyze the abilities of high-potential changemakers at SFU,” says Jennifer McRae, manager of RADIUS Edu. “By working together as a cohort of ‘Radical Doers’, the participating students will receive all the support necessary to create meaningful change in society.”

The two initiatives are delivered through RADIUS Edu, which supports the journey of emerging changemakers at SFU, and is fostering a powerful hub of social innovation and entrepreneurship activities for SFU and its communities.
