Biography

Chris Veld joined the Beedie School of Business at SFU in 2004 from Tilburg University in the Netherlands, where he held a variety of positions after earning his PhD in 1992. He has also held visiting positions at McGill University in Montreal and York University in Toronto.

Chris has a keen research interest in empirical corporate finance, examining why companies issue convertible bonds, pay dividends and spin off divisions. He is also interested in the ways in which investors perceive risk.

Chris was attracted to the Beedie School of Business at SFU because of the finance area’s excellent reputation and because, he says, “Vancouver is simply the best city in the world to live in.” He looks forward to regularly attending Vancouver Canucks’ hockey games.
