Biography

Associate Dean Maureen Fizzell oversees the Beedie School of Business operations and the undergraduate programs, a position which affords her a much-appreciated opportunity to be involved in strategic discussions at all levels of the university.

A senior lecturer in accounting, she joined the Beedie School of Business in 1993 from the University of Saskatchewan where she was an assistant professor. Teaching is a passion for Maureen. She particularly enjoys teaching introductory accounting students and is the author of a popular introductory financial textbook, Financial Accounting: A User Perspective, used in many Canadian universities. In 1996 the Faculty and students awarded her the TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching award.

Maureen is also a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). In 2004 CMA Canada awarded Maureen with its highest honour, naming her a Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants in recognition of her strategic leadership, community involvement, professional accomplishments and overall commitment to enriching the profession of management accounting.
