Biography

Dr Stelvia Matos is a Research Associate with the Centre for Policy Research on Science & Technology (CPROST) and an Adjunct Professor with the Beedie School of Business, Simon Fraser University. She holds a B.Eng. Chemical Engineering, M.Eng. and PhD, Civil Engineering (University of São Paulo- Brazil). Stelvia is currently working on a 3 year Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) funded project entitled “The Impact of Cash Transfer Policies on Entrepreneurial Activities in Impoverished Communities” awarded in 2009.

Stelvia’s research interests include environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) and environment management tools, Brazilian industrial and sustainable development policy, sustainable development innovation, information & communication technologies in rural areas and social aspects of innovation and engineering. She has been involved in a variety of research projects funded by SSHRC, IDRC, Genome Canada and CIDA resulting in publications in Energy Policy, Int. Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management, Int. Journal of Production Research, Harvard Business Review (Latin American Ed.), Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Int. Journal of Technology, Knowledge and Society, RAE – Revista de Administração de Empresa, Research Policy and Technological Forecasting & Social Change. In addition to academic skills, she also has extensive experience coordinating and managing research projects in a number of different industrial settings and countries.
