Stephen Spector is a senior lecturer in accounting and a Fellow of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada. Stephen worked for CGA Canada for 20 years before returning to university in 2002 to follow his passion - teaching. "I've always been an academic at heart," he notes. "I started the PhD program back in 1981 but dropped it." Returning to academia, he says, "it is a lot more fun and I enjoy it a lot more." During years as an instructor with SFU's Beedie School of Business, Stephen remained involved with the CGA association. He was a member of the Board of Governors of CGA BC from 1998 to 2011, and was its 2009 president. He was chair of the CGA BC Ethics committee from 1999 to 2007, and in 2011, Stephen was awarded the Chair's Award for Education by CGA-BC. Stephen's involvement with the Beedie School of Business is extensive. In 2008, he was awarded the TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Award. He has been on the Beedie School of Business Honour Roll from May 2008 to April 2013. From 2010 to April 2013, he was the Beedie School of Business' University Teaching Fellow. In 2012, Stephen became the academic Director of the Business Minor and effective January 2014, he became the Academic Director of the Business Major. Outside of work, he is an avid music fan and collector of classical music and movie scores.
