Geoff Teoli

EMBA

City of Vancouver

Senior Manager, Film and Special Events Branch

“I benefitted from working with experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds outside of the industry I was involved with—which was multiplied by the Americas MBA for Executives program. It gave me a more worldly education and an additional network of like-minded professionals.”

My experience at SFU Beedie

SFU Beedie provided me with an interactive educational experience that built upon the years I had already invested in my career. It not only added a whole other level of credentials, but also helped me develop skills that are needed to thrive in complex organizations.

I was able to apply the skills and strategies I learned in the program to my work at Actsafe, where I successfully implemented a five-year strategic plan. Additionally, I gained so much value from the relationships built with my cohort of diverse, experienced professionals.

My Journey

Prior to starting the Executive MBA (EMBA) program, I was a film production and locations management professional looking to move on from my role as Chief Executive for Actsafe. I was labeled as simply a ""film person"" even though I had years of transferable experience. Hence, I decided to pursue the EMBA.

The program did not disappoint. It gave me skills in structured management, leadership, strategic analysis, and change management, as well as opportunities for practical application.

Today, I am still well-connected with my classmates. We get together for social events and celebrations. Through a connection from my cohort, I also found my current job as the City of Vancouver's Senior Manager of Film & Special Events.

Highlights

Geoff's experience in the Americas MBA for Executives multiplied his appreciation for the networking and collaborative elements of the program. An optional Year 2 stream, the Americas MBA gave him the opportunity to study relevant management issues with students from the four largest economies in the Americas: Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States.

Where I am today

I now serve as Senior Manager at the City of Vancouver's Film and Special Events Branch, where I frequently apply the critical thinking and executive management skills that I acquired in my EMBA.
