SFU names inaugural Tom Foord Professor of Practice

Renowned Vancouver entrepreneur Andrew Harries has been appointed as the inaugural Tom Foord Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business. Through his role in the newly created professorship, Harries will focus on teaching and curriculum development to continue to enhance the Beedie School’s ability to deliver world-class, experiential entrepreneurship education.

Beedie School of Business undergraduate students comprised almost one third of the recipients at the 2016 Surrey Board of Trade’s Top 25 Under 25 Awards. On May 24, 2016, Beedie School of Business celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Management of Technlogy MBA program. In celebration of the program, we hosted a panel discussing how Canada can build more technology-based national champions. The panelists included Ben Sparrows, CEO of Saltworks, Michel Laberge, Founder and Chief Scientist of General Fusion, Elicia Maine, Academic Director of Science and Technology Commercialization at Beedie School of Business, and Greg Caws, President and CEO of B.C. Innovation Council.

The MOT MBA has a rich history with over 500 alumni, 56 current students, and a dedicated faculty and staff. If you were unable to attend the event, you can watch the panel presentation below.

SIAS IS a student run investment management organization composed of Master of Science in Finance students who manage a portion of SFU endowment funds. SIAS is a full service manager with risk and compliance departments. SIAS follows a value investing mandate set up the client (SFU) through a conservative investment policy statement.

Jack Austing Centre: From External Liberalization to Domestic Deregulation: The Logic behind SOE Reform in China

In September, 2015 Central Committee and the State Council announced the proposal on SOE reform. The proposal appears to be aimed at much-needed longer term structural change. If the reform is successful implemented, SOE system would be more modernized, and market-oriented. And it may create a wide range of business opportunities to both domestic and foreign investors. As a government consultant, Dr. Bo Chen will share his viewpoints and analyses on the background, logic, as well as challenges, of the SOE reform.
