SFU Beedie Students Hosting JDC West 2019

JDC West, Western Canada's largest multi-faceted business competition, will be hosted at SFU Burnaby in January 2019 for the first time! The Organizing Committee, consisting of over 20 current Beedie students and alumni, will host over 600 students from twelve business schools in Western Canada and over 200 community partners and faculty members. The competition components include ten business case disciplines, two athletic events, a parliamentary-style debate tournament, a social component, and a participation component (which includes charity and volunteer hours).

For many delegates, competing at JDC West is the highlight of their undergraduate experience. The theme of the 2019 competition, Shaping Tomorrow, encourages students to create and present solutions that are innovative and adapt to the ever-changing business landscape.

Collective Financial Statecraft: China, India, and the BRICS
Friday, March 23, 2018

Notwithstanding their disparate political systems, geographic regions, and capabilities, each of the five BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) has since 2006 found increasing reasons to align its international monetary and financial policies with the others. When the global financial crisis of 2008-2009 hit, they were jointly positioned to demand from the status quo Western powers greater voice in global financial governance as a quid pro quo for their contributions to the coordinated and successful G20 economic stimulus. Associate Professor of International Studies at SFU, Leslie Armijo considers the complex China-India relationship in the context of their ongoing and surprisingly successful BRICS collaboration.
