Beedie School of Business students and faculty celebrate their success at the 2016 Surrey 25 Under 25 Awards.

Beedie School of Business undergraduate students comprised almost one third of the recipients at the 2016 Surrey Board of Trade’s Top 25 Under 25 Awards.

Eight Beedie students or alumni were honoured this year, marking the sixth consecutive year that Beedie students have been featured on the prestigious list of winners.

The Surrey Board of Trade’s Top 25 Under 25 Awards recognize young entrepreneurs who are engaged in the City of Surrey through work, city projects, or are considered role models for their community.

Beedie student Ethan O’Brien earned a spot on the 2016 list as a result of his agriculture business, Living Garden Farms Corporation, which promotes vertical farming as an alternative and sustainable way to grow plants and vegetables year-round.

“When I started at the Beedie School of Business I saw the Surrey Top 25 Under 25 Awards and I knew I wanted to become a winner,” said O’Brien. “Beedie helped push me to be a better version of myself and trained me to accomplish my goals.”

This year’s winners were presented with their awards at a ceremony held on May 26 at Eaglequest Golf Course in Surrey, at which the Beedie School of Business was a headline sponsor.

“It is fantastic to see so many Beedie School of Business undergraduates featured prominently on this prestigious list again,” said Casey Dorin, executive director of undergraduate programs at the Beedie School of Business. “These students represent the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of the Beedie School of Business, and we couldn’t be more proud of their achievements.”

The list of Beedie winners this year includes:

Thomas Bogucki, program manager of Count on Me, which provides financial literacy courses and employability training to at-risk youth.

Baqar Hassan, director of business development for ePione, a medication management system connected through mobile technology.

Renee Lang, manager of Enactus SFU’s Bright Ideas, a six-week program designed to teach students fundamental business skills.

Bal Khatra, Beedie School of Business alumnus, and member of Coast Capital Savings’ Fraser Valley Young Leaders Community Council.

Julius Michael, co-founder of Orello Hearing Technology, which designs hearing aids that can be customized and tuned up without seeing a specialist.

Ethan O’Brien, founder of Living Garden Farms Corporation, a vertical farming company that promotes residential and commercial agriculture year-round.

Atif Saad, co-founder of ORTANGO, which helps small and media sized businesses with social media, web design and search engine marketing.

Cyrus Wong, co-founder of CampusPack, a social venture that provides good quality and affordable living essentials such as bed sheets and cookware for students and small families and teaching assistant at the Beedie School of Business.

The Beedie recipients were joined on the list of winners by three other SFU students: Dylan Belvedere, Hebah Arsheen Hussaina, and Amit Sandhu.
