Meet the Staff

Gurwinder Singh, B.E, MBA 
Director, Graduate Career Management Centre and Employer Engagement

Gurwinder oversees the Graduate Career Management Centre and employer engagement strategy across both the undergraduate and graduate programs. In his 18 years of experience, he brings a strategic mindset, an extended network of relationships, and a passion for education to his role. His experience as the Senior Associate Director at the Indian School of Business (ISB) saw him in varying capacities, whether that was collaborating with other departments to implement school-wide strategy or mentoring students in their career journeys. Showing that his passion for education went beyond his daytime job, he ran a non-profit organization that provides education to underprivileged children in India. As an SFU Executive MBA Alum, Gurwinder is eager to bring his passion and experience back to the Beedie School of Business in his new role as Director of Graduate Career Management Centre and Employer Engagement.

When not at work, he enjoys traveling, hiking, mountain biking and just being in nature. He loves reading books and listening to music. In addition, he regularly participates in community services, including teaching meditation classes and facilitating youth leadership programs. 

Doug Leong, B.PE, B.Ed, M.Ed
Associate Director, MBA Careers


Doug is responsible for providing career support for graduate students in the full-time MBA program. He has been working in higher education for over 15 years supporting adult learners achieve their education and career goals. His roles have included working as a faculty member, admissions advisor, and over 13 years’ experience in the career management field including managing a career services department at a college in Calgary, Alberta. His professional work experience includes teaching in the public education system; managing a community program in the not-for-profit industry, and working as a business analyst for a national company. Doug received his Masters of Education Degree, specializing in Enrollment Management, from Capella University. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Alberta, and a Bachelor’s of Physical Education Degree from the University of Calgary. 

When not working, you’ll find Doug traveling somewhere in the world; cooking up some great meals in the kitchen, or out enjoying the sun, sand, and ocean.

Wendy Lawson, BBA, CCDP
Manager, Executive and Technology MBA Careers, Graduate Career Management Centre 

Wendy provides career support to graduate students in the Executive MBA and the Management of Technology MBA program, leading interactive workshops, and offering career advising and coaching. Since arriving at SFU Beedie in 2013, she has worked with associations such as BC Tech and the Alternative Investment Management Association to help connect graduate and undergraduate students to working professionals in the Finance and Technology communities. With over 20 years’ experience in the career management field, including facilitating a program assisting adults in career confusion, Wendy has been an instructor at BCIT and The Art Institute of Vancouver where she taught a variety of topics such as job search, confidence building, becoming more assertive, and goal setting. Wendy holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and Marketing Management Diploma from BCIT and is a Certified Career Development Professional.

When not working with students, Wendy can be found walking trails on the side of Burnaby Mountain and playing with her Bichon Frisé, Diamond. She often enjoys gourmet meals with friends (they do the cooking and she brings the wine!)

Jennifer Winiski, BMgmt, MC, CCC
Manager, Part-time MBA Careers

Jennifer is responsible for providing career support for graduate students in the part-time MBA program, including career development planning, providing job search strategies, and career coaching and she also delivers interactive workshops on career-related topics.  Jennifer’s career has been spent primarily in the transportation and mining industry and her most recent professional experience has been in HR advising, recruitment, personal counselling, and employer relations.  Her personal and professional experience has provided her with valuable insight into understanding the needs of both students and employers.  Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Management degree from the University of Lethbridge and a Master of Counselling degree from the University of Calgary.   

When not at work, Jennifer can be found exploring the beautiful trails in the Lower Mainland with her dog Amber, shopping, enjoying a glass of wine from the Okanagan, trying new restaurants, going to concerts, and figuring out her next travel adventure!

Andrei Balezin, BEcon, CDP
Manager, MSc Finance Careers

Andrei is responsible for providing career support for graduate students in the MSc Finance program.  He has background is in corporate consulting, recruitment, employment services, marketing and finance. Andrei’s over 10 years of professional work experience includes providing career advising and job placement services to diverse clients in Canada, supporting business development initiatives in China and delivering corporate, legal and tax solutions in Hong Kong and Russia. Andrei holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the Khabarovsk State Academy of Economics and Law and Career Development Practitioner Certificate from SFU.

When not at work, Andrei can be found exploring natural wonders of British Columbia, snowboarding, playing tennis or guitar, going to concerts and planning next travel adventure.

Beth Ren, BA, M.Ed
Manager, Graduate Career Management Centre and Employer Engagement

Beth provides managerial and administrative support for the Graduate CMC by managing administrative and academic activities and related student services as well as by participating in strategic planning for career development programs. She also manages the annual operating budget, supervises support and student staff, responds to non-routine employer and alumni engagement requests, participates in short and long-term marketing and public relations initiatives, special projects and events. As a relator and achiever with great passion for making connections, Beth brings years of experience in employer relations management, project and program management, office coordination, event planning, budget and financial management, advising and teaching to Graduate CMC and Employer Relations team. Her previous work experience in various departments at SFU provides her comprehensive and unique insights into students' expectations and employers’ needs. Beth holds a Bachelor of Arts from Beijing International Studies University and a Master’s Degree in Education from SFU.

When not at work, Beth enjoys running along English Bay, hiking, traveling, catching up with friends, watching movies or reading books with a glass of authentic Jasmine tea sourced from the traditional tea streets of Beijing.

Sana Sohel, BA
Program Administrator, Graduate Career Management Centre

Sana is responsible for supporting the CMC operations and is the first point of contact for all graduate student career-related needs such as how to book career-advising appointments, register for events, and access online and in-office career resources. With over five years’ experience leading and managing student events such as Model United Nations, Student Leadership Conferences and New Student Orientation, Sana is proficient in event planning, public speaking and leading student groups. During her undergraduate studies, Sana advocated for investment in student engagement initiatives, believing in their importance for success in post-graduate career development.  She is always keen to help students work on achieving their full potential and to take advantage of the various resources available to them.  Sana holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Creative Writing with a minor in English Literature from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

When not working, Sana spends her evenings and weekends writing, reading or painting. She also enjoys hunting down unique eateries, discovering hidden nature spots, and going on long, unplanned road trips.
