Geoff Fawkes

President at Analyticy Technologies Inc.

"When I interacted in different areas of HSBC after doing my Executive MBA, I had a lot more confidence. I could also better explain concepts between different departments."

With a background in engineering and management, Geoff was looking to augment his education in a meaningful way. When he decided to make pursuing an MBA a priority, he gained so much more than a degree.

My experience at SFU Beedie

The Executive MBA was exactly what I'd needed for further professional development. It filled gaps in my knowledge in areas such as accounting and finance, and the lessons we learned in the classroom were immediately applicable to the workplace.

When I interacted in different areas of HSBC after doing my Executive MBA, I had a lot more confidence. I also stopped using technical language and started to better explain concepts between different departments.

My Journey

I started my career in software engineering and later moved into management positions at HSBC and Teradata. I had wanted to augment my education for a while and, when I turned 40 years old, finally made it a priority.

I chose SFU Beedie because it had a reputable Executive MBA program and I wanted to learn alongside students who were mature and could speak from many years of industry experience.

After graduation, I stayed connected to SFU Beedie through guest lecturing and mentoring students. I also helped judge the BCIC New Ventures Competition which gives early-stage B.C. innovators and entrepreneurs access to funding and mentorship.

Highlights

A recent quote I read sums up the benefits of my EMBA knowledge: "the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not."

Where I am today

I now serve as President at Analyticy Technologies Inc., providing technology management consulting services and analytics solutions to the financial services industry.
