Fall 2019 Application Deadlines:

Our Fall 2019 application deadlines have now passed but we are still able to consider late applications on a case-by-case basis. If you are interested in applying, please contact us at


  1. Undergraduate Degree
    • A four-year Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from a recognized University.
    • A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0/4.33 (B), or a grade point average of at least 3.33/4.33 (B+) based on the last 60 credits of undergraduate courses is required.
    • All graduate work is also considered.
    • An undergraduate degree and the graduate diploma in business administration (GDBA) with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is acceptable. No individual letter grade under a B.
    • Competitive recommendation: B+ or 76% or 3.3 GPA.

    • Need to upgrade your qualifications? Consider the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration.
  2. GMAT or GRE
    • We ask for a minimum GMAT score of 550. We also accept the GRE exam (minimum score of 150 in each section). 
    • Competitive recommendation- GMAT: 600+ or GRE 310+ on the combined verbal and quantitative section. 
    • It is possible to submit your application prior to sitting the GMAT or GRE, provided you have already booked your test date. Please provide us with a copy of your unofficial score report upon taking your test. 
    • Applicants must instruct GMAC or ETS to send your original score report directly to the Beedie School of Business at SFU. Scores are valid for five years from your test date

  3. Work Experience
    • Two years of full-time work experience following the completion of an undergraduate degree.
    • Competitive recommendation: More than 4 years of work experience.
  4. Language Proficiency
    • All courses in the MBA program are taught in English, therefore all applicants must be fluent in English.
    • If your primary language is not English or your previous education has been conducted in a country where English is not the primary language (a full list of accepted countries can be found here), you must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language as evidenced by achieving a satisfactory score on a standardized English test acceptable to the University.       • The three tests we accept are:
        • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) including reading, writing, speaking, and listening components
        • International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS) Academic version
        • Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE)
      • The minimum University requirements for test scores is:
        • TOEFL 93 with a minimum of 20 in each category (internet based exam) and a TWE of 5 (the paper based TOEFL score is also accepted with a minimum score of 580)
        • IELTS overall band score of 7.0 (with no individual category below 6.5)
        • PTE 63 with a minimum of 65 in speaking and writing
  5. Status in Canada
    • If you are not a Canadian citizen or do not have landed immigrant status, you must have a valid Canadian student visa

  1. The Graduate Studies Application System must be used for your official application.
  2. Upon submission, you will have seven days to pay your application fee in full.
  3. If you do not pay your application fee within the allotted time, your application will be cancelled.
  4. Once you have paid your application fee, you may begin to upload required documents.
  5. Your application will remain open until the cohort intake is closed.


  1. You are required to submit two references.
  2. The online application form will have a section for you to provide information for your two referees.
  3. Once you have submitted your online application, your referees will be automatically sent an email requesting them to complete a Recommendation Form. Click here to download a guide for your referees. 
  4. Once the reference letter has been submitted, your online checklist will be updated.
  5. You are not entitled to review or submit the letter on behalf of the referee, nor can you request information regarding the content or tone of a reference letter or evaluation.
  6. Guidelines for the submission of reference letters specify that referees state whether or not the applicant will see the letters.
  7. All letters of reference received at Beedie School of Business, Graduate Programs will be treated as confidential and will not be shared with or returned to applicants or referees.


  • In order to use the online application system, you will need to pay an application fee of $90 CAN (students with Canadian transcripts) or $125 CAN (students with international transcripts) by credit card (MasterCard or Visa).
  • If you do not pay the application fee within one week of application completion, your application will be cancelled.
  • To pay the application fee, log in to the Graduate Studies Application System with your User ID and password and select 'Make a Payment' from the Application Services page.


  • Once you have paid the application fee, you may use the online application system to upload supporting documents for review.
  • Applications are evaluated in the order in which they are completed.
  • It is to your advantage to upload and submit your supporting documents early to avoid application peaks.

  • Resume:
    • A complete resume showing employment, volunteer activities, education and other appropriate information.
  • Transcripts:
    • A copy of your official/unofficial transcript to expedite the evaluation process. Signed and sealed official transcripts are still required to be mailed directly to the Graduate Business program office. See below for details. Please note: If your transcripts are not in English and no translation is provided by the university, please click here for more information.
  • GMAT or GRE Score Report:
    • A copy of your unofficial score report to expedite the evaluation process. Please make sure the Educational Testing Service is informed to forward your official score to our office at code 6G8-N3-47.

      To submit a GRE score, please use our Institution Code 7112 Department 4201.

  • Self Evaluation:
  • TOEFL, IELTS (Academic) or PTE Score Report (if applicable):
    • For those students whose first language is not English and whose undergraduate degrees have not been obtained from a country where English is the primary language (a full list of accepted countries can be found here), please upload of a copy of the score report in PDF format.   • Official Transcripts:
    • Official transcripts for credit courses from the Registrar of each post-secondary institution you attended must be sent directly to the Graduate Business program office. Only one copy is required from each institution. If the transcripts are issued to you, they must be signed and sealed by your post-secondary institution.
  • GMAT or GRE Score Report:
    • Please inform the Educational Testing Service to forward your official score report to our office at Code 6G8-N3-47.
  • TOEFL, IELTS or PTE (if applicable):
    • Please inform the Educational Testing Service to forward your official score report to our office. Code for TOEFL results: Department code 01; Institution code 0999.


  • Within 21 days of receiving your acceptance letter, a non-refundable deposit of $2,000 CDN must be submitted.
  • This deposit reserves your seat in the MBA program, and will be applied towards your tuition.
