Student Life

Enrich your experience

SFU Beedie has a well-earned reputation for supporting and encouraging students to explore co-curricular activities in a way other institutions don’t. We see case competitions, MBA Games, conferences and other events as a way to uncover different leadership opportunities, hone your business skills and build richer networks.

Case competitions

Case Competitions

Think of case competitions as real-world business consulting. A competition typically involves four MBA students receiving an actual business case/problem and then acting as consultants to the company, analyzing the problem, providing recommendations and then presenting the analysis to the company executives. SFU Beedie helps fund student participation in competitions and provides other support, encouragement and resources. Students keep any prize money they win.

Learn about past case competitions:

2017 Net Impact Sustainability Challenge: This year's case was provided by FortisBC. The teams were asked to explore intertwined issues of feasibility, sustainability and the respectful engagement of communities as they explored the potential for developing energy solutions in Indigenous communities. Teams from BC, Alberta, Ontario, Washington State, Washington DC, and Oregon participated.

Graduate Business Student Association (GBSA)

Elected by the student body, the GBSA promotes and represents the interests and concerns of all graduate students at the Beedie School of Business.

Net Impact

Members of this club strive to make a positive environmental, social and economic impact in the Vancouver community, and beyond, by advocating responsible and sustainable business practices.

Graduate Business Women’s Council (GBWC)

The GBWC is comprised of passionate Beedie School of Business students who believe that knowledge-sharing and networking with executive women can lead to enhanced careers and greater diversity of leadership in BC.

MBA Games

MBA Games

Each year, Beedie sends up to 40 students to the MBA Games. The event provides opportunities to compete in finance, marketing, strategy and other live cases, as well as the chance to enjoy a host of other activities. We also provide financial support and other resources and help.

Conferences and events

Conferences and events

You’ll have the opportunity to attend numerous events throughout the program, including industry conferences. These events provide invaluable networking opportunities, as well as the chance to get up-to-date about specific business areas. Event speakers span a wide range of industries and feature fascinating thinkers and business figures, including former Prime Minister the Right Honourable Paul Martin and Netflix CMO Kelly Bennett (also an SFU alumna). We even help students create and manage their own events.

Live and learn in the city.

Our Campus

Segal Campus

As an MBA student, a typical day will be spent at the Segal Graduate School of Business campus in the heart of Downtown Vancouver. The impressive building, built in 1916 and formerly the Bank of Montreal headquarters, houses over 250 MBA and graduate students from our various programs. Its 60,000 square feet accommodates the finest in meeting and classroom facilities. The central location makes commuting easy and means that students are integrated into the local business community. It also provides easy access to Vancouver’s dining and entertainment scene for those all-important post class get-togethers.
