Why did you decide to pursue a Master of Science in Finance and what drew you to the SFU Beedie School of Business?

With an overall experience of four years in corporate and central banking my transition to investment management seemed challenging. Rising interest in investment management drew me to a point where I decided to pursue a Master’s program to realign my career choices. After fours years out of college I found it ineluctable to get experiential learning in a rigorous program to enhance my knowledge base.

MSc Fin at Beedie was my clear call after conducting detailed research on programs in North America. MSc Fin at Beedie is highly regarded by the industry and is a much sought-after program. Not only does it help to polish the technical skills required but also via SIAS (a student run fund) provides the relevant work experience just before stepping into the industry. I believe this program at this stage for me was imperative in order to realign my career trajectory.

What has been your favourite moment or experience at Beedie so far? What are you looking forward to?

Apart everything else, diversity and professional experience of the cohort is something that I was intrigued by the most. There is a lot that one can learn from the fellow candidates and I believe this aspect is as important as the program itself. With such rich experiences in finance, you get to learn from and see varying viewpoints of others. Being part of a qualified and talented cohort indeed deepens your financial acumen and this for me has been one of many wonderful experiences at Beedie so far. I am really looking forward to being part of the leadership team in SIAS, which itself is a fulfilling experience on its own.

How would you describe SFU Beedie’s culture?

Culture at Beedie is diverse and a quite welcoming. It gives you the best possible ground to showcase your skill, learn financial concepts and build yourself to cope with the challenges of the industry. Inclusivity and diversity are what makes the culture at Beedie stand out internationally and makes it a global business school. Everything is possible and accessible here at Beedie, in the end it comes down to the individual on what they want from any graduate program.
