Why did you decide to pursue a Master of Science in Finance and what drew you to the SFU Beedie School of Business?

When I started my undergrad, I was unsure of where I wanted to go. As I completed more and more internships and learnt about finance, I was hooked on to the idea of becoming a portfolio manager to enable people to save and invest for their future. Unfortunately, I lacked the desired skillsets and knowledge to succeed in that field which led me to pursue a Master of Science in Finance degree. A thorough search into some of the best MSc Finance programmes in Canada led me to SFU. As soon as I read through the various modules on offer, the SIAS platform, mentorship programmes, etc. I knew this is the place where I wanted to be, and I have been enjoying my journey ever since.

What has been your favourite moment or experience at Beedie so far? What are you looking forward to?

I am looking forward to many things! I am looking forward to presenting my team’s case study at the internal case competition. I am looking forward to managing one of the biggest student-led funds in Canada (SIAS). I am also looking forward to participating in the various other workshops and events that SFU will organize over the duration of my course.

How would you describe SFU Beedie’s culture?

I would describe SFU Beedie’s culture as open and welcoming. I always feel at ease whenever I am interacting with any staff, faculty, or fellow student. The lecturers are also very encouraging of students and put effort into making us understand the concept beyond the classroom. This encouraging and accepting culture allows me to be confident in pushing my boundaries and to continue to learn and grow as a finance professional and a member of the SFU Beedie student community.
