Why did you decide to pursue an MBA and what drew you to the SFU Beedie School of Business?

I am at a point in my journey where I will be making a career switch and I nurture the ambition to be an employer of labour. Hence my decision to pursue an MBA at this time is for the seamless transition into the finance industry while learning the skills I require to run a thriving company. I was drawn to Beedie because of its structure and culture. The program structure is based on experiential learning, with opportunities for internships and international applied projects. Also, the culture is very people oriented, the system is set up to help students learn, grow and succeed, they genuinely care.

What has been your favourite moment or experience at Beedie so far? What are you looking forward to?

So far, the people have been great - the students, the faculty, the groups. Learning from the different experiences of everyone has been amazing, the lecturers and cohorts are so knowledgeable, and not just on MBA material, but everything. Not a day passes by without learning something new, on culture, food, bitcoin, etc. whether in the classroom or otherwise. I am looking forward to the international applied project and the internship, where I will get work experience and I will have the opportunity to apply all the learnings from my MBA study time at Beedie to solve real life solutions.

How would you describe SFU Beedie’s culture?

I would describe the Beedie culture as caring, fun, growth through learning, and focused on community. In my short time at Beedie so far, I have confirmed this to be true, the classroom sessions, case analysis, group discussions have been a period of immense learning and growth. Also, during the Truth and Reconciliation week, I saw how committed Beedie was to lend a voice and take actions towards reconciliation. In handling the pandemic, Beedie implemented programs that would ease the travel burdens (e.g. CARES program). Beedie is a school that does what they say and has an environment that is great for learning, growing and thriving.
