Why did you decide to pursue an MBA and what drew you to the SFU Beedie School of Business?

The reason why I pursued the MBA program is because there is no specific Master's Degree in my profession of video games. Let me explain: in my 7 years in the industry, I realised that making a game requires knowledge from different areas. We are leading a team developing a game product; how can the team work efficiently under our leadership to consolidate a design in an interactive product? We are also learning the market; what is the demand for our game? Most importantly, we are making a business decision; is the game going to be profitable? MBA is a better (if not the best) answer to all said and many more questions. While the video game industry is changing fast, SFU Beedie's 16-month MBA program is perfect for me, so that I can jump back to the workplace and start the practice as soon as possible.

What has been your favourite moment or experience at Beedie so far? What are you looking forward to?

My favourite moment, aside from meeting all the awesome professors and attending super fascinating courses, is meeting some interesting people in my cohort. I have met my friend Mila, and she shared lots of stories related to the war that’s happening in Ukraine. The stories are shocking and horrifying. I was not only opening my eyes but also wanted to make a game to raise others’ awareness about the war that’s happening right now and the killing that would be occurring in the near future. I am also looking forward to getting to deeply know my other peers in the cohort. Listening to their experiences adds so much value in my life, it makes me think about things that are bigger than myself.

How would you describe SFU Beedie’s culture?

Beedie has a diverse, friendly, collaborative culture. The cohort is comprised of almost 80% international students, all of whom have different backgrounds and unique experiences. We are not running a prestigious and exclusive club, but a group with people who are humble, intelligent, and eager to learn. Many of us are new to Canada and excited to grow our new network. Everyone is ready to help out everyone, and that constitutes our friendly and collaborative team.
