Why did you decide to pursue an MBA and what drew you to the SFU Beedie School of Business?

After having risen to middle management ranks in my career spanning 8 years across multiple industries, I felt I was ready to switch my job function and explore new domains. This motivated me to pursue an MBA as it would help me learn the nuances of being a business leader.

SFU Beedie was a natural choice as I was looking for a diverse yet small cohort with an extensive network of alumni. SFU Beedie’s location in the heart of downtown Vancouver makes it easier to connect with local businesses, and through initiatives like the Mentors in Business Program, the Career Management Center helps us connect with the right people in our target industries.

What has been your favourite moment or experience at Beedie so far? What are you looking forward to?

Competing in the 2022 BC MBA Games was an experience to remember. We created history by winning the competition for the first time ever. Most importantly I made new connections from our other cohorts – the Part-Time MBA and Management of Technology MBA – and also forged new connections with people in other universities.

I enjoy the outdoors and I am an avid trekker; Of all the interesting experiences to look forward to in the program, I am most excited about the Leadership Retreat towards the end of our program where the entire cohort – divided into groups – will go on a hike in the beautiful mountains around Vancouver. All groups have presented their custom-trek route and are raring to go!

How would you describe SFU Beedie’s culture?

I can describe Beedie’s culture in one word – Community. I got a sense of belonging to a close-knit community even before the course began, when my student ambassador reached out to me. We soon had a WhatsApp group of the entire cohort through which we helped each other plan our trip to Vancouver. At Beedie, students, professors and staff collaborate together to ensure positive outcomes for us. Be it cracking business cases in the classroom or having a cup of coffee at a café across the street, the sense of community is omnipresent!
