Why did you decide to pursue an MBA and what drew you to the SFU Beedie School of Business?

My goal in the next 5 years is to become a senior product manager at a large technology firm. My prior education and professional experiences have inculcated in me relevant technical, interpersonal, and organizational skills but what I require is solid business acumen, which an MBA degree will provide me with. I saw Beedie’s tight-knit small-sized cohort as the perfect environment for personalized experiential learning that would help me connect deeply with faculty and my peers, and Beedie’s collaborative culture with its omnipresent alumni base and exceptional career management facilities, as the right platform for a successful career transition.

What has been your favourite moment or experience at Beedie so far? What are you looking forward to?

My favourite ongoing experience at Beedie so far has been Scott’s financial accounting course, hands down! Having never studied accounting before, I was super nervous and intimidated going into this class. However, all that changed quickly. Scott’s teaching methods are so effective that now, I can not only understand everything clearly but also explain accounting concepts to my peers. It truly has been a wonderful experience and is something that gets me excited every week.

I’m very much looking forward to the BC/MBA games. I really wish to participate in the academic case challenges and represent Beedie at this event.

How would you describe SFU Beedie’s culture?

Beedie has a very collaborative culture. The emphasis is given on experiential, innovative and student-centred learning. Most projects and assignments are case based, being highly collaborative in nature, so this helps students develop not only strong communication and team building skills but also form meaningful connections with their peers. Beedie has a very inclusive environment, and this allows people from diverse backgrounds and nationalities to voice their opinions and viewpoints without facing any kind of judgement. All in all, Beedie strives to develop innovative and socially responsible business leaders with a global perspective, inspired by research and grounded in practice.
