Why did you decide to pursue an MBA and what drew you to the SFU Beedie School of Business?

I decided to pursue an MBA because I wanted to facilitate a career change while also continuing my education and love of learning. I have creative ideas and strong people skills, but I need an MBA to gain the network, technical and quantitative skills, and knowledge to make an impact in areas I am passionate about. I want to build a more inclusive and sustainable future for business and promote corporate wellness. I chose to do my MBA at Beedie because it has unique networking opportunities for you to build relationships with the diverse cohort, the mentorship program, and guest speakers from different industries. I come from a diverse arts and entertainment background, and I wanted a community where my differences would be celebrated as an asset, and SFU Beedie was the right choice!

What has been your favourite moment or experience at Beedie so far? What are you looking forward to?

My favourite experience so far was our team hike in Squamish! Only a few of us were able to attend but it was so much fun to get to know some of our team members in a casual environment outside of class and spend some time getting fresh air and exercise looking over the gorgeous Howe Sound. It is so important to our cohort that we take time to get exercise, take care of our mental and physical health, and socialize and bond with each other outside of classes. Outings like this support our community building aspirations and give us an occasional break from academics. I’m mainly looking forward to the GWC events this year, we have a lot planned and can’t wait to get started.

How would you describe SFU Beedie’s culture?

Inclusive, supportive, and compassionate! It’s so easy to get close and form meaningful friendships when you are spending so much time together. We are a team and there is always support and someone willing to help you out even if it’s just to listen to you vent or to get a coffee after class. I was nervous coming into the program with an arts background, but I quickly realized that my differences are what make me unique, and everyone truly wants to see each of our team members succeed.
