Biography
An SFU Beedie Executive MBA alum, Gurwinder brings over 20 years of passion and experience into his role as the Director for Beedie School of Business’s Graduate Career Management Centre and Employer Engagement teams across both the undergraduate and graduate programs.
He has a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Punjab Technical University and moved to Canada in 1998 to attend the University of Saskatchewan to conduct research and attend postgraduate engineering courses. He joined a major forestry company Weyerhaeuser in 2002 as a Project Manager in Kamloops, and later advanced to become a Program Manager and lead the R&D tax credit program - a role that involved collaborating with project engineers, managers, innovators and cross-functional teams of 30 operations nationally. Moreover, his experience as the Senior Associate Director at the Indian School of Business (ISB) saw him in varying capacities including implementing school-wide strategy and mentoring students in their career journeys.
Following his passion for education and social entrepreneurship, Gurwinder helped set up a non-profit organization to provide education to over 250 underprivileged children in India annually. He further collaborated with various NGO’s to conduct youth camps on leadership, personality development and entrepreneurship mindset development.
When not working, Gurwinder enjoys spending time with his family, going on road trips, and looking for innovative ways to bring change, little by little, to the world at large.
