Developing leaders for the digital economy

Turn up the DIAL on transformation

Growth in the digital economy is now outpacing the general economy, with the tech sector projected to employ more than two million people across the country. More than ever, Canadians with a digital mindset and skills are in high demand.

SFU Beedie is leading the flagship strategic Capacity Building Program of Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster with DIAL (Digital Innovation and Leadership) in collaboration with private-sector, public-sector, not-for-profit and educational partners, including Traction on Demand, Salesforce, Instructure and the First Nations Technology Council. The program accelerates economic growth and innovation to create more jobs.

DIAL provides a systems change solution for Canadian employers seeking new talent or to upskill current employees. It is custom designed to help people and companies across sectors develop capacity for digital transformation. There is an opportunity for businesses to enroll staff at substantially reduced costs.

This initiative delivers two responsive training programs:

  • Digital Transformation Management – aimed at early to mid-career individuals who want to develop a digital innovation mindset along with the skills and capabilities to generate digital innovation ideas and put them into action.
  • Digital Transformation Leadership – ideal for middle to senior-level individuals who lead teams that are driving digital transformation in their organizations. This program will help them develop digital as well as leadership capabilities and generate ideas for digital product and service transformation.

The aim is for diverse, equitable and inclusive participation, with gender parity and at least 30 per cent representation from under-represented groups –such as Indigenous peoples, members of the LGBTQ+ community, racialized Canadians and people living with disabilities.

The initiative is focused first on Canada with the intention to scale to other countries in North America and then globally. Through international partnerships, there is potential to deliver the training in up to 70 countries in 30 languages.
