Consultant, Strategy & Operations at Slalom
“The SFU MBA program was helpful in providing a comprehensive network of contacts within the business community in Vancouver.”

What three words best describe your SFU MBA experience?

Transformational, Collaborative, Rewarding

Why did you decide to pursue an MBA and what drew you to the SFU Beedie School of Business?

With an undergraduate degree in business, I had a strong foundation to start my career in supply chain management. As I began my professional career, I aspired to rise into a management role in the near future and leverage this platform to make a greater impact within an organization. Pursuing an MBA was the next logical step to equip me with a strategic skillset to tackle the multitude of challenges as a manager. I decided to pursue an MBA at SFU Beedie School of Business as I was drawn to the smaller cohort sizes with the opportunities to collaborate with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Furthermore, the one-year duration of the program allowed me to take key learnings and apply them immediately into this next phase of my career.

How did the SFU MBA program transform your career journey?

The SFU MBA program was particularly helpful in providing a comprehensive network of contacts within the business community in Vancouver. In particular, the Career Management Centre proactively facilitated connections with alumni and hiring managers throughout the entire program. Through these interactions, I was able to refine my networking skills to build and maintain meaningful relationships with my contacts.

Furthermore, participating in the Graduate Management Career Consulting Program (GMCCP) sparked my interest in consulting while preparing me with tangible skills such as structured analysis, client-focused communication, and effective presentations. This program was instrumental in helping me landed and excel in my current role as a Strategy Consultant.

What was the highlight or your favorite memory from the MBA program?

Getting involved in extra-curricular activities was the highlight of the MBA program. I participated in the 2019 BC MBA games (2nd place finish!) and helped spearhead the SFU Segal Toastmasters Chapter. These were both amazing opportunities to meet other students from the various MBA programs at Beedie.

What is your favourite place near the downtown Segal campus?

My favourite place to go is Trees Organic Coffee where I would typically grab a hot coffee while walking around Canada Place before a morning class!

I always saw myself working beyond clinical pharmacy. I felt that I could also shine on the business side of healthcare. I knew that with my strong clinical training an MBA would help open more doors and give me the mobility I was looking for in my career.
