An SFU Beedie MSc Finance degree is an investment in your future and we want to support you in funding your degree to achieve your dreams and goals. We are proud to provide a variety of avenues for students to access the funding they need to successfully complete their program. Whether you are an international or domestic student, there are internal and external scholarships and funding options available to you.

All Students

Scholarships

Our scholarships are awarded as part and parcel of the admissions application process and are awarded on a competitive basis. We assess our candidates based on their work experience, academic prowess, community engagement and their alignment with our SFU Beedie values (diversity, action, research and engagement with purpose). Through our funding options, we assist in eliminating barriers for brilliant students from all socio-economic backgrounds to access higher education. At the time of submitting your program application, we will also review your application to determine scholarship eligibility and award amounts - no separate application needed.

I am immensely grateful for the SFU-Beedie Graduate Entrance Scholarship awarded to me for the MSc Finance program. This scholarship has provided me with the opportunity to pursue my academic goals, and I am thankful for the financial support that has reduced my financial stress. This prestigious award gave me the chance to study at a reputable institution and meet talented students from diverse backgrounds. This scholarship has allowed me to focus on my studies without worrying about the financial constraints that would have otherwise limited my learning experience. As a result, I am confident that being part of the MSc Finance cohort will contribute to my growth as a professional and to my ability to create a positive impact on society. I will forever cherish this incredible opportunity.

Bursaries

Bursaries are a supplemental source of funding for students with demonstrated financial need; that is, they should not be treated as your primary source of funding. Bursaries are available to qualifying Canadian and international students. You should be aware that you may not be awarded a bursary every term. Please note that due to the high volume of applications received each term, payment of funds may not occur until the middle of the term of application; therefore we encourage you to plan accordingly.

Domestic Students

Please note that SFU Beedie does not guarantee, co-sign, or endorse any of these specific programs of funding.

If you’ve been successful in taking out an educational loan with or receiving a scholarship from any other organization or financial institution, please let your department know so we can update this list for future students.

Employer Support Many students are financially sponsored, in full or in part, by their employers so we encourage you to review how your company will benefit from your knowledge and skills gained in the program. We provide a brief overview of the benefits and necessities for employer support; reach out to us if you would like assistance in putting together a case for sponsorship.

International Students

International students should arrange for financial assistance through institutions in their home country before coming to Canada, as they are not eligible to apply for the Federal and Provincial Student Loan Programs or loans through Canadian financial institutions.

In addition, a number of external organizations also offer scholarships and loans to international students to study in Canada, so we encourage international students to research all options that may be available to them. Although the list is not exhaustive, we have compiled some examples below.

International Student Loans

SFU Beedie accepts third-party loan financing for tuition payments made through Prodigy Finance.

External Scholarships

Colfuturo

UP TO $25,000 US PER YEAR FOR A MAXIMUM OF 2 YEARS

Colfuturo is a Colombian loan/scholarship program. The main objective of this program is to provide financial support and increase opportunities for Colombian citizens to access high-quality postgraduate study programs abroad. Selection is based on a student’s academics, quality of study program, and comparison amongst all applicants. Students may be awarded scholarships for 25% of the loaned amount, provided they accomplish these three requirements: (1) be awarded their postgraduate degree, (2) return to Colombia, and (3) remain in the country for three to five years.

As of 2018, the SFU Beedie School of Business's Full-Time MBA program and Colfuturo have a Collaborative Agreement, which increases the financial support available to Colombian citizens. Two Colombian students who are admitted into the Full-Time MBA program, and are also beneficiaries of the Colfuturo loan/scholarship program, will be eligible for an additional entrance scholarship, equivalent to 25% of tuition.

If you have any questions regarding the Colfuturo Collaborative Agreement, please contact Mugaya Bagambiire at mugaya_bagambiire@sfu.ca
