Admissions Appeals Process
Admission Appeal Types
If you have been denied admission to BOTH your first and second choice programs at Simon Fraser University, you will need to submit your appeal to the SFU Senate Appeals Board for consideration. Please follow the instructions outlined, including if you have any questions regarding this process.
If you have been denied admission to SFU Beedie School of Business, but have been offered admission to your alternate program choice, you will need to follow the instructions below for submission to SFU Beedie Undergraduate Appeals Committee.
The (a) appeal form, (b) letter of appeal, and (c) any supporting documentation must be submitted as a package to SFU Beedie School of Business Undergraduate Office by the deadline noted below.

If you have grounds for an admissions appeal, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Waiting until the appeal deadline may delay the decision and defer your admission to a subsequent term.
Please contact the SFU Beedie School of Business Undergraduate Office if there is a delay.
- Appeals are reviewed in order of receipt.
- The SFU Beedie School of Business Undergraduate Appeals Committee reviews all appeals for admission under special circumstances.
Basis for an appeal include:
- Medical – when an applicant has suffered a medical condition
that has adversely affected their ability to perform academically or in
other areas pertaining to the admission application.
- Compassionate – when an applicant has suffered a traumatic
experience, such as a death in the family, that has adversely affected
their ability to perform academically or in other areas pertaining to
the admission application.
- Incidental – when an applicant believes an error in processing
has occurred or has documented misadvice by authorized University
personnel, that may have adversely affected the admission application.
- Other – when an applicant has suffered an overwhelming personal
circumstance outside of medical or compassionate grounds that has
adversely affected their ability to perform academically or in other
areas pertaining to the admission application.
Appeals will not be considered due to:
- Dissatisfaction with the University policy.
- Failure to meet published admission deadlines.
- Appeals for reconsideration of grade information obtained after
the posted SFU Beedie document deadline (ex. An increase in admission GPA)
Obtaining the Appeal Form
Please speak with an SFU Beedie Advisor in order to review your application and reason for denial. If you'd like to appeal the decision, the SFU Beedie Advisor will provide you with the required appeal form.
The (a) appeal form, (b) appeal letter, and (c) any supporting documentation, must be submitted as a package either by email or in-person to:

Appeals will be assessed based on the following:
- Appeal letter (typed; no longer than two pages double-spaced or one page single-spaced)
- Supporting documentation submitted
- Original supplemental application, when applicable
- Academic record
The SFU Beedie Undergraduate Appeals Committee will review the written submission to determine if there is:
- grounds for an appeal, and
- if you have evidence to support your appeal.
The Committee will then:
- make a decision based on the documentation provided, along with a review of your original application, or
- request further information and/or documentation.
All decisions will be communicated in writing via email to the email address you used to apply to SFU Beedie.
