This application is for you if:

  • You are a secondary student completing your studies in the upcoming year or;
  • You previously graduated from a secondary school and have not completed more than 24 units of transferrable academic work at another post-secondary institution

Requirements for Admission

SFU general admission requirements for British Columbia high school students

In addition to fulfilling the requirements for admission to SFU, you must also meet the specific admission requirements for SFU Beedie School of Business. Review the requirements below, organized by year, to determine which requirements apply to you.

Secondary school applicants are competitively selected for admission in the fall and spring terms (only) by:

Required Grade 11 course categories:

  • English 11
  • Language 11
  • Math 11
  • Science 11
  • Social Studies 11

English Studies 12 with a minimum final blended grade of 70%.

Minimum of 5 Grade 12 courses, including English Studies 12, Pre-Calculus 12, and three additional courses from the SFU Beedie approved course list.

Admission is based on an evaluation of all approved Grade 11 and 12 courses, with greater emphasis on List A courses.

Marks matter, but so do your experiences, achievements and communication style. The Supplemental Application brings to life your experiences and personality. It is your chance to share with us a complete picture of who you are and why an SFU Beedie education is right for you.

What to expect

  • A short answer essay question that reveals more about who you are and demonstrates your communication skills
  • A place to describe your extra-curricular activities. From athletics and artistic pursuits to volunteer work and community involvement – tell us about your interests and what makes you unique
  • A request for two references. One must be a school counsellor or teacher, and both should be able to speak to your character, achievements and extracurricular activities
  • Something you want to share that doesn’t fit into the options above? We have a space for that!
  • Already applied to SFU Beedie? Tell us what you’ve accomplished since your previous application.
  • Payment of the Supplemental Application fee

This application is for you if you are:

  • Applying to SFU and the Beedie School of Business
  • In good academic standing and have a CGPA of 2.00 (60%) or greater
  • Transferring from an external college or university (excluding Fraser International College), and have not completed any coursework at SFU

Requirements for Admissions

To gain admission to Simon Fraser University, you must fulfill three admission requirements:

SFU Beedie School of Business Admission Requirements

College or University Transfer applicants are competitively selected for admission by:

  • Maintaining a competitive business admission average of 2.80 or better*
  • Remaining in good academic standing
  • Completing all eight required courses for admission (minimum grade of C- required)

* Please note BC Associate of Arts of Science degree holders will not receive preference in admission or assessment with a GPA 0.25 points less than the 2.8 required for a regular transfer to the Beedie School of Business like other faculties.

We have two admission pathways depending on your Business Admission GPA.

The following eight required courses are used to calculate your Business Admission Average:

  • BUEC 232-4 Data and Decisions I, or BUS 232-4 Data and Decisions I, or Stat 270-3
  • BUS 237-3 Introduction to Technology Management
  • BUS 251-3 Financial Accounting I
  • BUS 272-3 Behaviour in Organizations
  • ECON 103-4 Principles of Microeconomics
  • ECON 105-4 Principles of Macroeconomics
  • MATH 157-3 Calculus for the Social Sciences I (or MATH 151-3, 154-3, or 150-4)

And one of:

  • ENGL 111W-3
  • ENGL 112W-3
  • ENGL 113W-3
  • ENGL 114W-3
  • ENGL 115W-3
  • ENGL 199W-3
  • PHIL XX1-3 or PHIL 105-3
  • PHIL 100W-3
  • PHIL 120W-3
  • WL 101W-3
  • WL 103W-3
  • WL 104W-3

Any one of the above courses may be replaced by any three unspecified transfer units in English or in ENGL-Writing at the 100 or 200 level.

Transfer units

Students within British Columbia (BC) should refer to the BC Transfer Guide for course transferability. Sometimes, to gain transfer units for a single course, two or more courses must have been completed at your current college/university.

Students outside of British Columbia (BC) should consult with SFU Admissions via the SFU Future Students portal page for guidance on course transferability.

Repeated courses

You may only repeat two of the required courses for the Business Major program.

Should you repeat more than two, the best two are used to calculate your Business admission average. We evaluate subsequent repeated, required courses based on the letter grade achieved on the first attempt at the course.

Effective Summer 2020 Admission - Of the required courses, a maximum of two of the eight courses may be repeated one time each for admission.

Minimum grade in each of the required courses

Admission to SFU Beedie School of Business requires a minimum C- (C minus) grade in each of the required courses. This complies with the graduation requirements outlined in the SFU Calendar. If you have achieved a grade lower than a C- in your first attempt at 3 of the 8 required courses, you will not be eligible for admission consideration to the program as only two repeats are permitted.

For direct admission into SFU Beedie School of Business using only your GPA, without submitting a Supplemental Application, you must achieve a 3.30 or higher Business Admission GPA on a minimum of 5 completed courses out of the 8 courses required for admission, with the remaining required courses in progress at the time of application.

Applicants with a 3.30 or higher Business Admission GPA that are not in good standing or have been required to withdraw from a former post-secondary institution, are required to complete the Supplemental Application as part of their admission evaluation.   • 2.80 to 3.29 Business Admission GPA on a minimum of 5 completed courses out of the 8 courses required for admission, with the remaining required courses in progress at the time of application.

Students from these groups are competitively selected for admission based on a combination of academic performance and their Supplemental Application.

Should you decide not to complete the Supplemental Application, you will only be considered using the GPA-Only entry requirements.

Supplemental Application

The Supplemental Application brings to life your experiences and personality. It is your chance to share a complete picture of who you are and why an SFU Beedie education is right for you. There is a fee of $82.80 CAD to submit your application payable online at the time you submit your Supplemental Application.

  • Currently in an SFU Faculty other than the Beedie School of Business
  • Seeking admission to the Business Major, Business Joint Major, or the Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Business Double Degree program

Requirements for Admissions

Internal Transfer applicants are competitively selected for admission to the Business Major or Business Joint Major program by:

  • Maintaining a competitive business admission average of 2.80 or better
  • Remaining in good academic standing
  • Completing all eight required courses for admission (minimum grade of C- required)
  • Attaining a minimum SFU business course GPA of 2.30 by the end of the application term

A minimum of five out of the eight courses must be completed, with the remaining three in progress, at the time you apply.

Please note that the Beedie School of Business enforces the SFU Five Course Repeat Policy. Should you require five or more repeats to complete a degree in the Beedie School of Business, you will not be eligible for Internal Transfer.

A desire to explore complementary interests, a change in career goals, a thirst for knowledge—whatever your motivation for pursuing a second or subsequent undergraduate program, an SFU Beedie School of Business degree offers skills and experience applicable across disciplines.

This second degree application is for you if you:

  • have already completed a degree in a subject outside of Business Administration or Commerce (e.g. BBA, BCom, Business Major/Joint Major, MBA, etc).
  • are seeking admission to the Business Major or Business Joint Major program
