Academic Advising

SFU Beedie Academic Advisors are here to support you from the beginning to the end of your academic journey at Beedie School of Business. As academic advisors, we help you plan and meet your academic goals and overcome challenges when they arise. We believe appropriate strategies, resources and support are integral to student success. We aim to support you in making informed decisions that align with your unique goals and priorities.

ADVISING METHOD AND APPROACH

We are committed to providing a confidential and safe space during your academic program.

We believe student success requires a mutual commitment between the academic advisor and the student. You will arrive at various milestones during your academic journey as you transition into a new environment, progress in your degree, and approach graduation. As academic advisors, we are committed to strategizing with you to develop personalized achievable plans so you can achieve your goals.

With a strong online presence and academic advising services available at both Burnaby and Surrey campuses, our team engages in purposeful and meaningful dialogue with you to support your growth and success. We advocate for fairness and consistency in our programs to uphold the reputation of our degrees obtained from SFU's Beedie School of Business.

At the SFU Beedie School of Business, our advisors can help and support you with:

  • Review admission, transfer, and program requirements
  • Troubleshoot enrollment and waitlist
  • Plan courses and degree
  • Declare concentration and certificate
  • Navigate academic difficulty and GPA concerns
  • Check graduation requirements
  • Connect you to appropriate academic and student resources

Your academic advisor is someone who will:

  • Understand your needs to support you best
  • Collaborate with you to set goals and develop plans to achieve them
  • Help you understand and navigate your program requirements and academic policies
  • Provide you with resources and referrals to on-campus service

  • Be mindful of your role in maintaining a safe and respectful environment
  • Ask for clarification if an issue is unclear or not understood
  • Take notes
  • Follow up with your advisor if necessary

If your inquiry has been resolved before a booked appointment, please cancel your appointment at your earliest convenience to allow the appointment time to be available for other students.

Drop-in (Virtual)

Every Monday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Additional virtual drop-in sessions are available in the first three weeks of the term and enrollment period on Fridays from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

* Please note that our office is closed on Statutory Holidays and when the university is closed. Please refer to the Academic Dates on the Academic Calendar for office closures.

Beedie Success Program Academic Advising: Students who have received notification regarding their overall SFU Business GPA and access to upper division business courses are invited to book a confidential one-on-one Academic Success Planning appointment with a SFU Beedie Success Advisor by logging into AdvisorLink.
