PEAK Case Competition

The PEAK Case Competition, presented by the SFU Beedie Student Engagement and Development Office, is designed specifically for case competitors who are looking for a more introductory case competition experience. Targeting primarily, students who are in their first to second year at SFU Beedie (less than 60 credits), and also upper year level transfer students with little to no case competition experience. PEAK will provide competitors with an opportunity to engage in a professional and structured case competition with like-minded peers to enhance and develop their own skills and abilities. This competition is a great stepping stone to the world of case competitions by providing a longer deliberation and relatively easier case.

PEAK is the perfect opportunity to see what competing is all about! We hope that participating in PEAK can help you explore your interest in case competitions. For those who have previously engaged in the Case Competition Training Program (CCTP), this is the perfect next step for you to continue applying your knowledge and to gain valuable practice in a structured case competition environment. Participated in the BUS 201/202 Case Challenge? This is a great opportunity for you to further your understanding and skill-set in the case competition arena, and to continue building connections with like-minded peers. Competed once or twice previously and looking to expand on your case competition experience? Look no further, we have you covered.

Competing students will work within teams to analyze a case and prepare their presentations to deliver to a panel of judges that include esteemed Faculty, Alumni, and industry professionals.

Registration is $5.00 CAD per competitor and teams will have the opportunity to compete for real cash prizes:

If you're looking for a more advanced challenge, visit our intermediate case competition, ELITE.

General Information

Date: June 22, 2024
Location: SFU Burnaby
Registration: April 2 - May 12 (11:59PM)

The competition will include a 5-day team deliberation. Presentations for both the preliminary and finalist rounds will be in-person on June 22. Final presentations will be immediately followed by the awards ceremony.

Eligibility

  • SFU undergraduate students in their first to second undergraduate year (no more than 60 credits)
  • Upper year level transfer students with little to no case competition experience
  • Fraser International College (FIC) students
  • Students must be in good academic standing
Non-SFU Beedie students will be asked to provide proof of student status.

Note: Students who have represented SFU Beedie at a faculty-sponsored case competition, JDC West, competed in a previous year's ELITE competition, and/or placed in the finals for a previous year's PEAK competition, are NOT eligible to compete in PEAK. Instead, we hope to see you compete in ELITE.

Team Composition

PEAK Teams must meet the following requirements:

  • a minimum of 3 or a maximum of 4 students per team
  • all students must meet the eligibility requirements above
  • a minimum of 2 BBA students per team

Please Note: If your team falls below 3 students, the organizers reserve the right to pair you with individual applicants.

We would strongly encourage all competitors to carefully consider the question of diversity within the context of their teams. This can include reflecting on areas such as gender, concentration(s), race, year-level, education, previous work experiences, and a variety of other factors that are not listed here but may be relevant for you and your team members.

The body of research on team dynamics is quickly expanding and it paints a clear picture - diversity plays a key role in high-performing teams.

Ideal Competitors Are:

  • Those who have no previous case competition experience and are looking for an organized, supportive, and professional environment to be introduced into the world of case competitions

  • Those who have an interest in competing at higher-levels of case competitions in the future, including faculty-sponsored teams at local and national competitions and JDC West
  • Those who are looking to expand on their career competencies, including (but not limited to) items such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving

Team Coaches:

  • Each team may choose to have one team coach to help prepare them for the competition
  • The coach is not to communicate with the team in any way related to the competition during the case deliberation period (as defined below)
