Beedie Urban Development Program

The SFU Beedie Urban Development Program (BUDP) offers undergraduate students opportunities to learn about the inner workings of urban development, its role in the Lower Mainland, and opportunities within the industry. With unprecedented growth rates in Metro Vancouver, urban development is becoming more and more integral to the way our cities function. Urban development professionals (a diverse group including city planners, real estate agents, developers, property managers, and government officials and more) have the unique role of connecting communities, government, and businesses to enhance living conditions in the present and future.

With its second cohort beginning in May 2018, this program offers a select group of SFU Beedie undergraduates the chance to explore the field of urban development through in-depth and engaging content delivered by experienced industry professionals. BUDP is a student-run initiative in partnership with SFU Beedie's Career Management Centre with the goal of empowering and educating the next generation of urban development professionals.

As a participant in BUDP, you will have access to numerous opportunities to kickstart your career in urban development, including:

  • An eight-workshop program covering foundational aspects of urban development
  • Three office tours with prominent development firms and exclusive networking opportunities
  • A choice group of 25 like-minded students interested in urban development
  • A celebratory wrap up event allowing you to network with industry professionals upon completion of the program
